Midweek Football 8th-10th April ***Spoilers***

I don't understand your question? I'd like to see a Chelsea/Barca final cos I'd hate to see either of the other sides win it ;)

I just wondered whether it was just your opinion because you can't stand us and Utd or whether you simply thought it would make for a better game.

Yes. We may have scored a few less in the league but we've had some big cup wins which made up for it. Arsenal are the only other side to have got 100 goals this season.

Yes, but I'm not sure sure you can really count cups. It's not a level playing field to judge teams.

Liverpool had a very easy FA Cup run, a semi decent group in the Champions League. Carling Cup I won't count as easy since you had Reading, Cardiff and Chelsea. But the first two you should have been pretty comfortable in.

Arsenal's FA Cup only really had one easy game and that was against Burnley but they did hit Newcastle when Newcastle were at a low. Their Carling Cup was quite tough bar the Sheffield United game. Champions League wise they had what should have been an easy group with only really Sevilla being the other decent side.

Chelsea had an easy FA Cup run and Carling Cup run, but had a tough group (Shalke and Valencia... with Rosenbourg being the "easy" side.)

We had the toughest FA Cup run of the big four, a dreadful Carling Cup game against Coventry saw us knocked out at the first stage (so you've got a few games extra). Our Champions League so far had a reasonably tough group with Roma and Sporting both decent sides - then Lyon and Roma after the groups.

We've probably all had different levels games to play in Cups, we've all played different amounts of games. I don't think it's fair to count those?

At least in the League we all play the same teams twice, we all play the same amount of games.

Who we draw in the cups is simply the luck of the draw but our CL group was as hard as yours and our knock-out rounds have been far harder.

Anyway the 100 goals thing wasn't really a competition, it just rubbishes talk that we're so defensive.

I know Loki is. I'm not entirely sure you can beat us in a one off game, but we'll have to see how injuries and suspensions are if it comes down to it.

I doubt you thought Bolton or Pompey would beat you either. Absolutely anything can happen in a one off game and we're due a win against you lot.

As mouthwatering as a United-Pool final sounds, it would probably be a very dull ultra defensive game where one team nicks a goal and just sits on it for the rest of the 90 minutes.

And Nokkon, I'd say we're far more likely to beat you in a one-off game compared to a league encounter.

Thats what im worried about. I think Its been show that in the league Livepool lack the consistency but Rafa certainly can set his stall out for one off games. I hope I am proved to be wrong but I just don't have a good feeling about it.

That said, i'd like to show a little respect to the other teams, its by no means a forgone conclusion that it will be a Liverpool Utd final. If anything Chelsea could say they owe Liverpool one and it could be a Barca Chelsea final

No such thing as "due a win". You have to earn it.
The problems with these other teams is that there was certainly a sense of underestimation, with so much on the line against a top team there wouldn't be. We've not struggled against any good sides yet this season.

Fair enough :)

Luck of the draw is pretty much what I was getting at, you get draw an easier side - the chances of scoring more goals goes up :)

I still think you had a pretty good draw in the CL Group stage. Marseille haven't been brilliant this year, they had two pretty poor Cup runs and finished 4th in the French League. Porto are on par with Sporting so that's fair enough. Beşiktaş were obviously the easy draw in there, and I'm still suprised they managed to get two wins from the group! Perhaps it goes to show how poor you were playing in the CL at that stage, and probably goes to show Marseille have been pretty woeful as well.

As for our group... Roma are only a couple of points behind Inter at the moment probably tougher than any team in your group, though I don't doubt you'd have beaten them they way they have played. Sporting are on par with Porto as said and Kyiv we're pretty dire.

Looking at it that way, maybe the two groups were closer than I though.
Tbh I think most United fans are thinking the same way :p

Haha thats for sure!

Sporting are not close to being on a par with Porto, Porto are 20 points ahead of Sporting in their league. Tbh i was very suprised Porto didn't get past Schalke, even when we beat them 4-1 they were the better side for large parts of that game. I was really impressed with Porto and imo Porto were a far harder test than Roma, Sporting are probably better than Marseille and i wouldn't say there were much between Besiktas and Kiev (both poor sides but dangerous at home).

As is the Italian league. From what ive seen of both sides i'd say Porto are better and by a distance. The way in which they knocked the ball about wasn't far off what Arsenal have been doing this season and they've got the individual match winners in attacking areas too. Just lacking at the back.

I hadn't checked tables/results on Porto/Sporting before that post - just based that on general observasions and my own opinion that I simply rate them the almost equally and that the Portuguese League isn't that great with only really three decent sides in there (Benfica, Porto and Sporting).

Having a quick look, Porto are ahead but it seems to be Sporting's away form that seems to have let them down. Seems like Porto ran away with the League and are a good 8 points clear of second place with only 5 games left and Sporting 20 points behind.

I think we'll have to agree to disagree there. The Italian league isn't what it used to be, still streets ahead of the Portuguese league though and Roma are a much better side than Porto.

..... and we're due a win against you lot.

You lot arent due anything when you always play terribly against us (1 goal in 6 attempts I believe, and even that was an own goal by John OShea)

anyway my view of the match last night:

Hargreaves was almighty - from an alround performance it was 5 star imo from attacking the goal directly, phenomenal crosses (most of which where wasted), and his defensive tackling and tracking back - completely top notch

The rest of the team did well, Pique surprised me with his solidness seeing as he hasnt played more than about 5 matches all season.

Giggs did pretty well especially with some of the corners (although it was good seeing OH taking some near the end too - even if RG was off the pitch by then , cant remember) but otherwise had a relatively quiet game

Brown didnt concede a penalty imo, I thought he got the ball fairly (not only because of the way the ball left the scene) - but justice was done anyway by the glaring miss

VDS did well but wasnt tested that well either - he did flap at a few though

Carrick I dont remember doing very much apart from that last ditch defensive header (I think in the 1st half)

We did surprisingly well considering that Rooney only played about 20 minutes and Ronaldo didnt play at all (good news for Sunday especially)

We also broke the record for consecutive home wins in the CL which cant be bad

Roll on Barca ......on St George's day

I still dont think Barca are that convincing - yes they did what they needed to to get through, but no team at this level aims for 1-0 results away or at home, they should have beaten Shalke a lot more easily

Imagine the bragging rights beating 3 top english clubs to win the CL

Even though i dont like to admit it but I have to agree with both of them tbh,

it will more than likely result in a dull game if it ended up Lpool v united final, so defensive, and as for the second thing you said, i cant help but remembering the AC Milan final :(

but then again we wont know until it happens, 1999 i cant remember that clearly, as i was only 9 years old, so i have not seen united in a bigger game as this in my life (if we get there of course) and i think if it ends up a united v Lpool final we wont hear the end of it for years and years too come no matter the outcome, and thats what im afraid of, living around Lpool fans, my best mate being a big Lpool fan and his whole fammily who all live in same village, Gah it could be hell, although it could be hell for them ;), Cheshire see, near enough 50/50 United Lpool fans.

If it's Chelsea united final, theres only 1 Huge Chelsea fan around here and i can just about keep clear of him :p

But i still have 100% confidence as usual united will be champions of Europe :)

the potential for violence worries me more than anything to be honest. the russians are generally a bit mental and together with the relationship between certain elements of both sets of fans it won't take much to kick it off where the security may not be as tight.
