24" monitor running 1900x1200. Scenery is fine but the cockpit panel ain't right. It looks low res and the dials are oval . Is there a separate control for the panel.

Adjust :

Graphics -> Filtering -> Bilinear (Minimum)
Graphics -> Anti-Aliasing (Checked on)
Graphics -> Global Texture Resolution

Aircraft -> High-Resolution 3-D Virtual Cockpit (Checked on, if you are flying the virtual cockpit and no 2-D panel mode)

fsx.CFG is in under Documents & Settings ....\Application Data\Microsoft\FSX

I'd rename the old one and let FSX create a new one, you'll loose your in-game settings but you should find this will sort out any glitches.

I so want to get back into this game.
Are there any tutorial type DVDs for the game to help you along with lessons or to give you a breakdown of how to flight/flight mechanics/instructions/radio etc etc instead of wading through all the material provided in the help files in game? :)

Just go for the tut missions. Everything else is just trial and error.

I'm using Vista and there is no fsx.CFG on my system.

Hmm but I want to make sure that I learn everything correctly. I.e. to make sure I know what every dial does in the sim etc :P

Another thing which gets me... when you land at an airport, how the hell do you know where to taxi to? I mean I did use the radio feature which draws out a guidance line but presumably real pilots have no feature and are guided to specific gate numbers.

Or am I being too "rear ended" about it :D

I suggest that you go through all the tutorials provided in game, unless you want to start paying for extra book and DVD's. In my experience they are well worth reading through, and while the physical exams can be a little hard (Everything has to be perfect) they're worth a stab.

In regards to the taxiing, pilots have all the ground plates for the specific airport, if they are so unfamiliar that they need ATC help, ATC can provide "Progressive" taxi instructions, which involves the controller talking the pilot through the route, turn left on alpha, right on bravo etc.

Thanks for your reply Trill. I got a few questions if you dont mind answering?

1. Can you recommend any DVD's or books for FSX?
2. Not familiar with this term: "Ground Plates"? Pilot talk for map or something :p ?
3. I remember the progressive taxi instructions in FSX, but this is laid out as a line leading to the gate though, does the ingame ATC actually give verbal commands as you have mentioned above?

Thanks a million :)

1. I don't use any, all my knowledge is from specific one on one training or from online. I have so many sources i won't post them here. If you want help with anything, you can contact me.
2. Yes, map would be the basic word for it, otherwise "Aerodrome Chart" or "Aircraft Ground Movement Chart". I would post one here but they are in .PDF format.
3. No, just the visual aid.
