Bear Grylls: Born Survivor WOW

Bear Grylls. The fake who broke his back and then climbed everest. Check his wiki for more things he's done. Fake or not he has still done some pretty dangerous things.

Ah yes, because a "reality show" only ever works if it's staged.

Who wants genuine reality in a "reality show" anyway? Not me!

Maybe he does check in to a Hotel, but he's still the real deal.

Nobody has ever denied Ray Mears his supply of pies (which are hidden off camera), have they? ;) :p

Yes but I don't see why that matters, he knows what he's doing and is an expert.

Bear Grylls = Extreme survival
Ray mears = bush craft and how to live comfortably of the land.

I do prefer ray mears, but they aren't really the same.

Bear Grylls = entertainment
Ray Mears = informative

bear grylls is just a show man really there's sometimes some good hints but if you want to know whats what watch ray mears, even if he's a bit on the podgy side :p

some of the TV show stunts are rigged, but you can't deny what else he's done -
was the youngest british person to succesfully climb Everest?
Flew over the TOP of the Himalays (higher than Everest) in a microlite?
led the first team to circumnavigate the UK on jet skis?
Crossing the North Atlantic Ocean on a RIB (which is an amazing book)?

all for charity as well!

At the time, he was the youngest Briton to climb Everest. Not the youngest person.

And now kids as young as 14 & 15 are doing it.

bear is quite entertaining in the ewww factor.

Survivor man is the daddy though, he doesnt have a film crew - he films it all himself.

The show just bores me to be honest. Its all over the top, and out to shock. God knows how it got commissioned, imo.

People can laugh at him and call him fake if they want, all I know is, he's done far more interesting things than I have in my life and I respect that.
I wouldn't really compare the TV show to Ray Mears, they are both good shows for different reasons.
Ray Mears shows us things where you'd think, hmm... I could maybe do some of that, and it is quite educational. Bear Grylls shows us situations which you'd hopefully never be in and it is more "entertaining".

What a stupid thing to say.
Fair enough, it bores you, it probably is over the top, and the shock factor is a big part of it.

But it got commissioned because a great deal more people think the opposite, it's a good entertaining show and worth a watch.

Don't really like Bear Grylls, don't trust him - the look on his face on the shows.........
Ray Mears and any of the SAS Survival ones are good.

He's a tough guy no doubt about that. And sure he's a bit brash and would be able to and could survive - heck I'm sure he'd have no quarms about doing what it takes to survive no matter what moral obligation he'd have to deny.

However in spite of this I find him OTT and needlessly so. Anyone here that has done any survival training knows that what he does is extreme and whilst it works is unecessary and requires more effort/energy than is worth it. You need a more cool/calculated approach for survival, which Ray Mears does have IMO.
