Robot Wars

It was just evolution in the game.

Once they upped the weight limit from ~80KG to 100KG you saw a lot more imaginitive robots with more destructure weapons though.

Kinetic discs basically became the favoured weapon with awesome destructive power, relatively simple to design and implement too.

Chaos 2 never really got an upgrade when the weight limit was increased, so was effectively competing against robots in a higher class... it was still one of the best robots capable of flipping things out of the ring. With an upgrade (Chaos 3?) it would have been pretty immense.

Flipper bots are ghey:(

I recently saw some of the original ones when it first came out and before Craig Charles was on it and most of the robots could not even get up a shallow slope! There were no battles as the robots were basically just a remote controlled car! They used to struggle to get around a little course. It was very dull indeed!

I remember seeing Hypnodisk for the first time, it ripping that robot apart! Great stuff.

Razer ***, loved when it mashed up the other competitors. :)
Kids tears when the house robots destroyed their robot was also great TV. :)

I didn't like the panic when house robots became disabled or on fire. Killalot on fire? STOP THE GAME!!!! *fire extinguisher*

I didn't like the new house robots, the original 3 were at least semi-fair.

Sir Bigalot was just too oversized and overweight for anything to compete, and IMO it just became about avoiding the CPZ's. Shouldn't have ever allowed that thing in the arena IMO.

My (almost) 10 year old nephew has loved all the robot wars progs & toys since he was three, he got into it when I was babysitting for his mum & I was watching it on the telly, he cried when it was over & I promptly went on a RW toy shopping spree, got a bit expensive for me & his mum!

just looked up battlebots on youtube,

proper destruction!!! and some really interesting designs! will have to watch a load when i get home!

yeh i want it to come back, ive been to see it live 3 times , much more impressive!

I saw hypno-disc and briefly chated to one of the twins who built it.

Cassius the first robot with the shrimech

I remember watching that for the first time. It was a case of 'Oh well, they've been flipped, gg.'
Then they just righted. It was like it was invincible! :P

Innovation was the way to win, most of the time. It was the different ones that always did well. Razor, hypnodisk, gemini and pussycat, for example.
Gemini was awsome.

And who can forget nemesis/Diotoir? :D

Behemoth always struck me as being a tank. Indestructable, just not too good at dealing damage.

I used to love the look of Razor, but it always seemed to mess up when it mattered :p

Cassius (top speed of 35mph) was one of my favourites followed by Firestorm and Hypnodisc :)

man, the memories :)

Razer was by far the best robot; didn't look like a tin of baked beans & had the coolest weapon

The odd thing was that for some reason whenever I watched robot wars, all the robots always seemed to look the same size as your regular monster truck but when the owners were interviewed and stuff like car wheels/car doors were shown in the arenas it became clear the robots were much bigger, but it was a bit weird, as if the cameras used an odd lens to make the robots look smaller or something.

Was it just me?
