Yeah, with that e8200, a 500mhz fsb capable mobo and the OCZ PC8000 you should see 4ghz happily.

My e8500 has been one of my best purchases ever so it comes highly recommended.

Nope. P35's clock just as well and tend to run a lot cooler.

I used to have a P35 DS3P and TBH i'd have kept it rather than getting the X38 in my sig.

That ASUS board you linked to should do well i'd imagine.

gt, just have a look at the picture of the P5K Pro.

Does the 3rd port from the right look like an RCA socket to you?

Yup, it seems to be an rca/phono type socket.

It's probably a digital coaxial port.

Edit: Also, check the reviews for the board. One user has his e8200 up to 3.5ghz @ 1.1v. Looks like the PC6400 DDR2 he has is holding him back - no probs with that PC8000.

E8200 has more cache so will be quicker overall I'd imagine.

It's difficult to say.

Probably 6 of one and half a dozen of the other.

I'd probably chose the extra cache on the wolfdale as that counts for a few extra clocks in itself. My e8500 gave similar performance @ 3.4ghz to my old e6600 @ 3.6ghz. Plus it did that while using a good deal less power.

I would ask in the cpu forum, if you are spending that money want to make sure it is right.

The second CPU could clock a lot better negating the extra cache

Ok, I've done it. The following bits are now on their way to me.

Corsair HX520 PSU
Asus P5K-Pro Motherboard
Intel Core2Duo E8200 CPU
2x 250gb Hitachi SATAII HDDs
EVGA GeForce 8800GT 512mb
EK Supreme AceTal waterblock and barbs
Logitech MX Revolution mouse (wanted one for months)

And not forgetting the 4gb OCZ PC8000 RAM from MM.

Reckon I'll like it?

Bits arrived today.

Got woken up at 8:30 by the courier and didn't bother going back to bed

Had a bit of a dumb moment and thought the 8-pin 12v cable from the PSU was a PCI-E connector. It would fit into the power connector on the card but obviously with a row of pins not connected. I thought that perhaps some of the new PCI-E cards required more power, hence the bigger connector.

Got a bit scared when it wouldn't even power up

Realised what I'd done and connected the correct connector only to have it roar into life! The PSU is lovely and very quiet. The waterblock looks excellent too, really pleased with everything so far.

I had to go to work at 12 and I didn't have time to go any further, so I left it running to allow any air to escape out of the cooling system. Looking forward to having a good mess about with it tonight though!
