And I still dont fully understad what Ferraris new 'hole' in its nose is all about.....

Do you have a picture of this hole in the nose?
Im not sure which one your on about but if i remember correctly, theres a high pressure spot there and the hole relieves this pressure.
Not sure if im correct.

Yeah, its designed to release the high presure air under the nose and flow it over the rear wing...

So does that mean the hole goes right through the nose to underneith and bring air right up through it? I just cant help thinking its going to have major structurual downfalls and cant see how having a masisve hole in the nosecone will pass crash tests...
Also, isnt it better to have high presure air moving fast under the car to suck it down?

They'll probably let Ferrari run it for a race or two, see how it goes. And all the while test it on their computers and see if they can see any potential in it. However like the rear wheel hub covers and the new pit stop alerting device most teams will probably copy Ferrari. Either that or bitch that its unfair and complain to the FIA to get it banned. :D Like McLaren's revolutionary 1998 double brake systems. :)

Lots of pics from testing. Check out the McLaren in the pic second row from bottom, 2 in. Sporting the rear wing designed for the 2009 reglations... The cars are going to look very different next year.

Slick tyres aswell! WOOO

Renault have made a hideous front wing even uglier

As PinkFloyd, I think the new rear wing as seen on the McLaren looks pretty cool actually.

Can someone remind me what the regulation change is regarding the rear wing design? Lower surface area or something?

Why is it that everyone is running on slick tyres? Given that in races these cannot be used, what is the point in testing new devices on the car, with slick tyres?

I don't think the teams would be doing so much testing with slicks if they didn't have someone at the FIA saying it might be a good idea to test on slicks. ;)

Edit: FIA rules for 2009 say decision will be made by September 1st the season before. So by September 1st 2008 we should know. :)

Edit: Some info and pics of the nose. http://www.grandprixgames.org/read.php?3,778217

As far i i know, nothing has been confirmed for 09 yet, but its somthing like:

Higher, narrower and lower angle of attack on rear wing (a la the McLaren today)
Wider, lower and lower angle of attack on front wing (a la F1 cars of the late 90's)
No Aero devices between the front and rear axels, which means the removal of all the wings and flipups and barge boards on the sidepods
Slick tyres to provide mechanical grip to counter the loss of aero grip
Engin and gearbox rules relating to time they must last increased
weight penalties instead of grid pentalties
no tyre warmers
kinetic enrgey recovery systems (still dont know what these actually do)
fixed costs etc

They are all rumors atm, although some like the slick tyres and areo changes are pretty much confirmed
