Project 'sillyteg'

what exactly did you buy new then, just cylinder block + internals ?

so you've got to transfer head + ancillaries from the old engine to the new ?

I bought a fully built bottom end consiting of fully forged internals and sleeved and bored cylinders. The guy sold it cheap because he is going back to the USA and needed shot of it. He rekcons it's done less than 3k miles

So yeah, it's basically just a case of trasnfering the head and stuff from my old engine to the new one.

Awesomely:D It was a damp day and no real signs of wheelspin (lack of torque and him not driving like a bell probably contributed) and it seemed to still handle like an EK9 should. I was seriously impressed, only downside was cabin noise, 3" exhaust straight through wasn't quiet. I've never been pinned back into my seat like that before though.

See, that's what I'm talking about

So many people seem to think that putting 350bhp through the front wheels will make it an undrivable mess, when the reality is these cars put the power down very well indeed. They still have comparitively low torque and all the power is up top, that combined with well designed suspension and a decent LSD helps to keep it from spinning the power away in every gear.

Can't wait to get mine done now

I forgot to add he'd just drove out of the tyre place with brand new fronts, but yeah you're right:D

I was suprised to see him using stock brakes, stock driveshafts and GSR (US Integra?) cams too but I know nothing about turbos.

Yeah a lot of people use GSR cams in turbo builds, they seem to work really well. I just couldn't be arsed trying to source a set, my Skunk2 items were cheap enough anyway, less than half the UK RRP

Stock driveshafts can take lots of power too, guys in the states push 500+ whp through them without issues....

Stock brakes though :eek::eek:

Ahhhhhhh, I used to have (it's in my room now) one of those.

Sounded like the real deal (and what a sound!!)... but only worked for about 2 months. No idea why it stopped working as the valve seems to move freely.

It was pointing forwards though, facing the front of the car so probably got caked with crap. Might stick it back on tomorrow, see if me working it loose has helped any.

edit... Found a video on my phone. Crap quality but gives you an idea how loud they are :D

If a jobs worth doing, its worth doing right... :/

I know, I know. But I have looked into it and a lot of people have had success with them, so I thought for £40 it's worth a punt.

At the end of the day it's not like I'm skimping of essentials like the turbo itself or the wastegate. If the BOV fails it'll either leak or stick shut, neither of which is catastophic.
