Hey all, daft question, I know I can reheat, but its been over a day in the fridge now so just wondering if it will still be ok to eat, purchased it around 10 on tuseday (10 at night). Its egg fried rice, plain noodles and curry sauce... thanks all!

Rice is well dodgy to reheat, avoid at all costs

I've heard that reheating rice can cause food poisoning. Is this true?

It's true that you could get food poisoning from eating reheated rice. But it's not actually the reheating that's the problem – it's the way the rice has been stored before reheating.

Uncooked rice can contain spores of Bacillus cereus, bacteria that can cause food poisoning. When the rice is cooked, the spores can survive. Then, if the rice is left standing at room temperature, the spores will germinate into bacteria. These bacteria will multiply and may produce toxins (poisons) that cause vomiting or diarrhoea. Reheating the rice won't get rid of these toxins.

So, the longer cooked rice is left at room temperature, the more likely it is that bacteria, or the toxins they produce, could stop the rice being safe to eat.

It's best to serve rice when it has just been cooked. If that isn't possible, cool the rice as quickly as possible (ideally within one hour) and keep it in the fridge for no more than one day until reheating.

Remember that when you reheat any food, you should always check that it's piping hot all the way through, and avoid reheating more than once.

not worth the risk. rice costs pence, make it fresh!

it's not the reheating of rice thats the problem. it's the cooling of it after its been cooked.

if I knew how to make decent egg fried rice then I would make it fresh.... I dont have any rice to do it with mind you :p

Ive eat chinese like 3 - 4 days later and kebab thinking of it aint been ill once. Get it Downya Boyo

people are gobsmacked on weekends when i come in with seafood pizza and i reheat it its only last nights pizza hutt leftovers giving me the full run down about re-heating food esp seafood etc It aint going to do no harm (i hope)

it is very true about rice, there is a risk, but if its been in the fridge it should be fine to be honest, since bacteria cant multiple at such speeds whilst at refrigerator temperature.
Even if there was fair levels of it you will probably be fine, you either have a kiddy belly or you dont.
I get food poisoning literally once a year, and its always from a DODGEY takeaway or from a random meal out, its only a couple of gargling noises in the belly, some explosive runs and its over with. Its not v difficult to whip up some fresh rice so do that if you aint as hardcore as the rest of us :)
