Play TV for PS3 - news

Seriously? You would be happy to pay that for what is just 2 DVB tuners and some software? I would hope for around the £50 mark myself otherwise I would just go out and but a nicer PVR for a little more.

"Hi There",

I don't know too "much" about Freeview PVRs, but can you get "one" with similar "features" that cheap?

I think if it is "over" £50 I would not buy it tbh. The only feature I have seen on this that I have not read about elsewhere is the ability to record "audio" and "video" and move them to other devices/PSP etc.

Also with "regards" to this "series" link. I know "Sky" support it and "HTPCs" can do it (through "software" and online "TV" guides I guess). Is this actually "supported" on other "Freeview" boxes (or is it a limitation in the Freeview broadcasts themselves?).

I'm really disappointed, I won't be able to get away with replacing wmce + 360 with one of these + PS3 without a series record.

Can you get a dual HD capable tuner with all the functions of play TV for £50? And can it stream TV to my PSP?

No but the price should be in the hardware rather than what it offers as the PS3 has a hdd in it. Obviously it cant stream to your PSP but there are things like the slingbox etc.

I know it has a lot of features, but they are features it has to have to appeal to people. If it was just a TV card that could record no one would really care.

Looking back on it... maybe £50 was too little as it is 2 cards. So maybe £60. It's just its something which really makes use of the PS3.

Just to point out I'm not hating the product. I think it sounds like a great addition. It may be just because I don't watch much TV.

If its less than £80 ill be buying this as it will be ideal for uni. Already subscribed to a few pre-order notifications with certain retailers. I hope you can you use your PSP as a remote and view channel information and guides etc chicks would dig that!

:p

"Hi There",

Where can I find such "chicks" ? At your "University" ? :D

"Seriously" though I think £80 is "too" much, considering the "HDD" all the recording is "happening" to is already yours!!

looks nice but can't see it selling well in Belgium where we have 0 transmitters all FTA channels are sent by satellite or cable.

Yea £80 is too much but im in the market and ive gone through a fair few crappy usb ones to finally realise you get what you pay for. A PVR standalone box isnt really an option considering ive only got the Dell as a screen at uni. Dual tuners and psp interactivity are a bonus so hopefully Sony wont charge a rip-off price coz ill be the mug buying it. :)

Plus there are loads of birds at my Uni!:D There were 3 boys and 9 girls on my floor in halls! Which isnt a good thing at all after a while !!

I agree, same price as a Nova-T 500 and they might be in business, except not with me, I can't for the life of me think of a way of explaining why there's no series record and getting away with it.

Well march came and went and april is close to its end, hadnt heard anything much regarding this for a while, but found some info on website. On the big internet only website they have it down as a 31st July release date, and more importantly the price, its £59.99 down from £69.99 at that price i thinks its VFM. Its also got the Pre-order Price Guarantee with it so they have to sell you it at that price according to the info.

As far as I am aware to see any free HD content you need a SkyHD box (that has the HD decoder in it) or the box that bbc/ch4/itv gave out a couple of years ago for people testing the HD service over Freeview. I am certain a commercial version does not yet exists for Freeview HD.

rp2000

just so you know rp

I was on the HD Testing over freeview - I stopped recieving the Crystal Palace signal as soon as the testing was finished, I dont believe there is any way of getting the BBC HD (and CH4 on occasion i believe) channel without having sky now

I have a humax dual tuner pvr and the guide is dreadful, slow to download and unwieldy and also each channel operates independantly which can be very confusing (ie you move to two days hence on BBC1 and select record,
flick to another channel and it reverts back to current time which I always thought was a little daft)

For that price I think its reasonable - but lets just see what happens when its released

Do the addon box have a CAM slot does anyone know so i can record my setanta channel?

Another way is to buy 2 x tv tuners for ** pc for £45 and use media centre to record tv, then rip it using mcebuddy & use virtual dub to get the adverts out. Then use wmp11 to stream it back to the ps3, problerm solved for a total of £45.

Unfortuntley the cam slot for pc is a rip off.

Is this worth the effort though ? My PS3 resided below my main 40" LCD in the front room - its obviously gonna be the best place to have it. I've also got a few mates who who have PS3s but no PVRs so this is a no brainer !!.

For the simplicity i would fork out the extra for the PS3 addon. I don't own a PVR and while it costs about the same i imagine this will be faster and more intuitive than any of the competition at the same price point.

Not sure if they've been posted here yet but interface shots from a French PS website. The interface looks pretty sexy imo.
