8gb recommendations please

i just want to know what ram you 8gb users are using. i'm looking at pc6400 stuff to run on the p35 chipset - most likely going to get a gigabyte p35-ds3r. i don't need anything faster than pc6400 as i'll be getting a q6600 and i have no interest in timings either.

so far the ocz vista gold 4gb kit has caught my eye. i'll get one kit this week and then i'll be looking to add another 4gb in a few weeks time. anybody running 8gb of this stuff? anything else i should be looking at? :)

i've got that exact motherboard (v2.1 -doesn't have parallel/serial port (as in the legacy printer ports) instead it's got extra usb2 ports :) -8 in total)


i've got the 8gb ocz kit from ocuk, just remember most ram kits are rated at 2.2v now, and the default in that board is 1.8

so i upped mine by 0.4 (it worked at 1.8, but sleep mode kept failing until i realised the volts are low by default)

I'd 2nd bledd's suggestion of that kit.

I use a similar OCZ PC8000 platinum kit in my X38 and it's running wonderfully.

Also, despite my initial reservations of getting that much ram i've found Vista to actually benefit from this amount of ram. 2gb was a no no, 4gb flew, and 8gb seems better still.

Only voltage change i needed was upping it to the default 2.1v. No change of northbridge voltages or anything. Very happy. :)

i remember you recommending it in a previous thread and i remember you're running 8gb - that's one of the reasons i'm getting it (it also gets recommended in loads of "spec me" threads in GH so it must be alright :p). i guess it's pot luck as to what revision i'll get though.....
 
regarding the revision of the board

i asked here if ocuk could tell me which revision it would be, had no reply so i bought it somewhere else, they got a 2.1 in especially for me (they didn't even stock the board originally)
 
i wasn't planning to get all the ram at once but i've changed my mind now. i'll think i'll go for the 8gb kit this week. thanks for the replies everyone. :)

bledd., are you clocking your q6600 at all? :)
 
just a moderate overclock to 3ghz, not had time to fiddle, i did that on 2nd boot, then played through crysis, been too busy to play, and been playing Mario Kart Wii :p

i just upped the fsb and set the ram to 2.4x (so 800)

stock everything besides +0.1MCH and +0.4 memory (default for the ram)
