Hi,

My darling little boy seemed to object to watching Toy Story by belting my TV with a toy, its since been replaced with a much better TV(by my insurer :D ), but what do i do with my old broken TV, just bin it?,can it be recycled or could i even sell it to someone who could fix it or use it for spares?

What would you do?

cheers

As far as i can tell, the LCD screen itself. i dont know how hard he hit it, so its hard to say if anything immediately behind the screen is busted. Everything else "may" be ok.

It just seems to be an enormous waste to just throw it all out.

I suppose you can get a quote to see how much it cost to get it fix some Samsung, see if its economical to do that before selling it or just flog it on the bay as broken.

I ended up with an LE40M87BDX (1080P). I already have one of these in the other room,so i now have two :D

Gran turismo on PS3 and BluRay movies look sweet on it.

Had a similar issue last year where the panel got scratched badly.

Spoke to Samsung and they gave me the name of their 3rd party servicers for issues like this.

Called them and they said forget it as the panel is almost the same price as a new HDTV (around £600 for a 40" model) plus labour charges (takes a while as you can imagine) so not viable to fix and with regards to spare parts from the panel the rest is probably worthless to you.

Worth contacting Samsung to see if they can suggest what to do with it or how to depose of it.

Have you actually checked with your insurance company as to if they are going to collect it?
By buying you a new television the old one is effectively theirs.
They may well say you can do what you like with it - however you should really check as selling it and then finding they want it back wouldn't be too good.

Empire commercial, who handle the replacements, said to just bin it, when we asked them.

BTW, Thanks for all the advice, still not decided what to do with it though.

I'd also suggest sticking it on the bay with a few good pictures, no doubt someone will buy it if you make the postage reasonable (parcel2go or a similar company would help with that).

That or make it into some modern art!

If your in Bristol I'll give ya a tenner for it!

I've fixed a few LCD's before, often it's the inverter.

Also, try e-bay, some dodgy people buy broken stuff for insurance fraud!

No it isn't:)

What makes you think that?
If you have a car written off and you get paid the insurance, the "wreck" belongs to the insurance company.
The same goes for items "accidentally damaged".
Once they have replaced or paid out the "wreck" belongs to the insurance company.
They may well let you keep it, however if they haven't actually told you this then until they have (or arranged a time to collect it) they could at any time suddenly announce they want it back.

For the sake of a quick phone call to the insurance company to confirm you can do what you like with it - you could save a lot of hassle in the future.

What makes you think it doesn't belong to the insurance company?
