Nintendo have released their financial figures for the last year (april2007-march2008), with a sales turnover of $16billion (1670billion yen), they've made $2.5billion profit (257 billion yen).

Go Nintendo! :)

Other few facts:

24.45 million Wii sold in total, with a game attach rate of 6.07games/wii

70.6 million SD sold in total, with a game attach rate of 5.24games/ds

Wii production ramping up to 2.4 million per month in the summer (currently 1.8 million per month)

Hopefully the next N console will be HD atleast now ^_^, i hear they are making a new DS, hopefully with the extra pocketmoney they can develop it further. i am getting a bit fed up of Nintendo staying behind, Enter the HD era and they bring out SD consoles.

i still admire them for not releasing a huge sized console though.

Pah it's just a fad, and they'll never survive they should head the way of Sega and just make games for other peoples hardware.

More seriously, to paraphrase the film "If you make it, they will buy it" :)

Don't care if it's a fad or not. I drool a little every time I think about how many Wii's are being sold and how little they cost Nintendo to make.

Indeed. Whether you like the console or not, you've got to be impressed with the business if they can actually turn a profit selling a console from day one in this day and age.

Its no surprise. They have brought FUN back into gaming. Games on Nintendo sytems can be easy to get into, but hard to master. In the main, developers can`t hide a poor game behind flashy graphics because of system limitations, so the gameplay becomes a focal point again, as it should. Gaming is not about realism, its about fun/frustration/enjoyment in equal mesures to make the player want more. Large variety of games also.

A bit like the Amiga/Sega/Nintendo days of old.

Just my two penneth. :)

As a footnote, I hated Nintendo growing up. I was an Amiga fanboy. It was my job to hate Nintendo/Sega LOL

When i got my wii wheel today, played a few races and saw just how well it worked my first thought was "at last, i finally get it".

Its the first time i have been impressed with something the wii does and gives me great hope for the future, and for future consoles.

I get so fed up of seeing this. I have a lot of fun playing on my 360, if I didn't I wouldn't do it. I respect Nintendo for what they're trying to do, but instantly dismissing other types of consoles/games as not fun is just stupid.

not suprised they are doing well, they always make sure they make profit on every console sold.

Got to say apart from HD gfx I'd be intrested to see what their next console is like, probably in their best interests to sell WII games for aslong as possible, it's not like the WII's main market will want to buy another console every few years without something REALLY special

Agreed. The way some people go on you'd think up until the magical Wii arrived people just used to sit around on their console, playing it under duress, really miserable and unhappy.

Look, don`t get me wrong, having used them, I think the PS3 and 360 are great, and I am glad you guys are enjoying them.

I just think that for once, a company deserves a bit of credit for trying something different, Instead of simply putting better graphical/processing capabilities on already great consoles. My PS2 literally fell to pieces it was used so much. But only by me.

My post was not a console bash in any way. But Nintendo have found a way for gaming to appeal to a wider market. I could never sit my parents in front of the 360, but I can with the Wii.

I think any credit they get is deserved. :)

I've heard that a lot too, but of all 5 of my consoles I'd say the Wii gives me the least amount of fun.

Me too but if they get the online nailed there is so many games I would have played to death with say xbl features. For me 90% of online play is the banter, when they get online sorted with voice chat I'd use it so much more.

For some people it was getting a bit stale. Consoles went from the NES to Snes/Mega drive and then into 3D. So now we are on our 3rd "playstation" generation playing the same games the same way we did 10 years ago- GT5 for example. Great game, but most people miss out on a huge % of the fun by using a stick instead of a racing wheel/pedals. The way we interact with games is a huge part of the enjoyment- just look what the analog stick did for 3D games or even "2D" sport games.

Eurogamer had the profit at $2.5B, not $5B, still not bad!

good news for nintendo but i hope proper gaming does not die out ,as i cannot see my self playing wii type games in the future .

Don't be surprised if Microsoft don't have an answer to the Wii remote at E3, with "US sports" been the big game! ;)
