Anyone know much about Whisky?

cant go wrong with jack daniels

;) i know its not a whiskey ;)

I find jamesons nice and easy to drink

also got a bottle of dewars white label and a bottle of passport scotch from holiday last year, they are really nice for what they cost IMO

32 year old are such a unique variety that you can't really recommend one. Two 32 year olds from the same barrel will have a different character and taste, and it really depends how caring the bottling has been. Then theres what type, Speyside 25+ are really quite excellent, as are highlands and lowlands, but the aged campbeltown I've had really didn't strike me. I prefer Single malts, especially if you're going for age, but its true that there are some nice Irish oldies. Something you might have to consider is the emerging Japanese market, they have some fantastic well driven Whisky's, but if it has to be 32 years old you won't find one.

Oh, yes you can.

i don't understand your reaction, what wrong with fiddich? it's a premium malt.

No, it's drain cleaner with good marketing. It's bought be people who need to buy a bottle for someone but who know nothing about whisky so go for something they have heard of. Triumph of advertising over quality. I'd rather drink warm spit.

I'd second that. I got given a bottle of Jap whisky for my birthday and I must say it's jolly nice.

I'll also vote for Glenfiddich - sure it's mass marketed but it's still a single malt. I once did a Whisky tasting evening and it came out quite high.

whisky snobbery to be very honest. its your mind that's been mass marketed.

32years? It will be old and past it. whisky isnt like whine and they take it out of the barrel after x many years for a reason.

The problem with real whisky's is that they are so different to each others its all down to personal taste. I promise that all those people who say "eugh i HATE it" will like one, its just matter or trial and error getting them to find it. Best approach is to work their way though minatures over the year and find the one they like.

For me its Lagavulin.

I am not a whiskey drinker, but when i was away at the Forest of Arden golf course a couple of the guys i went with were big whiskey drinkers (one being scottish :)).

They introduced me to Glen Levit, which i found extremely easy to drink and will definitely be partaking in drinking a lot more i think.

I like Glenlivet to I have a bottle of it.

Not many 32 year old whiskys around; they tend to be 10, ,12, 15, 18, 21 or 30. Beyind that you're looking at extremely expensive specialist whiskys. If the age is critical (as a birthday present for a 32 year old or something) you could go for a 30 which was bottled in May 2006?

I like a good tipple, and I usually buy a bottle per week, but as a humble PhD student I go for the ~£20 to £25 per bottle range. The oldest I've had (so far anyway) is 18 years.

If you're just looking for a good whisky my personal recommendations would be something like talisker, or perhaps ardbeg. I quite like the glenmorangie golden rum cask 15 as well, but at £30 - £32 per bottle I usually wait until that one is on offer.

Wow - you know, you're right. You just have to be. I mean, why wouldn't whisky behave like "whine" ?

All these idiot whisky aficionados and master distillers obviously know nothing. I bow before the infallible logic of mister ibot, and the rectum of truth from which he pulls his statements.
