iPhone V2 speculation...

With the SDK coming out, if the V2 was changed dramatically then would software developers not need to write 2 versions of their software one for V1 and V2 iPhone?

No because the SDK is designed to work on the OS not the hardware.

I think they are just stopping online orders. I dont see why they would phase out the 8Gb altogether seeing as Apple are the suppliers and they haven't mentioned anything.

This would suggest that they're prepping for a new revision, however, it could also be a tactic to scare people to buy.

Not my words, but that of the Mac Rumors faithfull.

I can see what they mean, but I'd say it's likely they're just trying to deplete stock.

might there be a new (better?) ipod touch looming? i was getting very close to buying an 8GB one...

My prediction is a June announcement and a early July ship. Apple are up to something, you don't just EOL a popular product.

Going to a black plastic finish would mean 2 things;

Scratches
..but better GPS reception

Not sure I like the idea of that, but the rumors are pointing to a non-recessed headphone socket, and whatnot, so it could be an interesting few weeks.

What I want to know is.. this price-drop ends on June 1st, yes? If they're sold out now, then what are they going to do for the month of May? Obviously, they set a date of June 1st to ensure that come WWDC there was little/no stock 8GBs left.

Me thinks that they didn't anticipate the sales that would be generated by the pricedrop. Perhaps this will show Apple that many people in the UK wouldn't pay £269, and that they'd be better off selling it cheaper in the future. Don't forget $399 = £200, not £269, Steve ;)

The iPod update cycle usually falls around September.

Although, given the nature of the iPhone updates.. it could see a capacity bump.

I agree...definitely! It would be interesting to get hold of sales reports for just the last week or so.... Hopefully it'll show that £269 price tag was a little too high...

Although after using my iphone for a week, I'd actually pay double! *shushh*

well. was it too high though? obviously lower is better (lol) but £269 for, after 5 mintues work, an unlocked iphone is very cheap comparing some of the phones that sell for that price or more on payg (the viewty being one of them!)

Well scare tactic or not, I just ordered a 8GB online. Would have popped down the road to the store but I wanted to put it on a credit card and I can't for the life of me remember the pin for it...

iSuppose you're right! But even though that appears to be the norm... a lot of people who are paying the o2 contract as well are doing so begrudgingly!

£269 + £35 * 18 = a lot of maths I cant do in my head!

But I see your point about unlocking! :)
