Bought my young son a starters deck yesterday.

I've made a second playing mat so we could share his deck to play.

I've read the rules a few times & I'm a bit baffled by the basics!

Does anyone on here play? Know any good links to an idiot guide!?! :D

Stupid game ;)

'Screw the rules, I have money' seems to work quite well.

But seriously, its just about getting good cards. But unlike most good TCG's, such as magic, at least 50% of the cards in yu-gi-oh are useless. Your deck should be made up of mostly 4 star monsters, with some more powerful tribute summon ones, a few lower powered effect cards, and some creature destruction.

Most of the creatures with one two and three stars are essentially useless unless they are the ones with 2000 DEF or have fancy effects.

Disclaimer: This is only my experience from playing the video games.

You should not know this much about such a game when you are twenty years of age.

I'm in my uni's gaming and roleplaying society, its one of the things you need to know :P
However, Magic: The Gathering is the CCG for me :)

Ok, thats not entirely true. Back when the anime/cartoon was on over here I used to watch that.
Also, if you've ever seen the anime, I recommend checking out the Abridged Series. A guy just condensed the episodes into a few minutes and dubbed over them. Much funnier if you watched the anime, but probably pretty good if you haven't. It gets better after the first couple of eps :)
