Do you tip pizza/chinese/Indian delivery drivers?

I seem to remember a thread recently about tipping, but wondered specifically about takeaway food. I usually tip, but to be honest I'm not made of money and do it begrudgingly sometimes. On the occasions I don't tip, I always think the driver gives me the tight-git body language, but maybe I'm being paranoid. I mean, they get paid right? Am I a grumpy old git or what?

I probably order about one a year :p

But when I do I'll let them keep the change if I've only got a note and the change is only a few quid.

Yea, I tip the delivery drivers. Doing me a service so I don't see why not. Usually strike up conversation for a bit too.

Especially with that very pretty Dominoes lass ;) :p

I have a random Russian driver too, he's proper hillarious and slightly stereotypical...Really appreciates the tip, so always nice :)

No way. Hadn't even entered my mind that they expected it until I read what was probably the same thread on here :)

Sometimes, sometimes not. If I don't tip and they get the hump they'll definitely never get one. Likewise if they 'accidentally' short change me, or purposely take ages with my change in the hope I'll say 'never mind, keep it'. If they're very nice they definitely get one.

I only ever order takeaway from Famous Moes Pizza, and I always tip them. They always deliver early, and the food always kicks arse.

Yeap I pretty much do this too.

don't see the point tbh... aside from maybe 'keep the change'

The food has already been prepared and I don't order takeaways very often - I don't think the guy delivering it has added any value.

Eating in a restaurant is a bit different - a waiter has sat you down taken your order, checked everything is ok, fetched further drinks made recommendations and basically made the evening run smoothly.

I just can't stand the whole US way of tipping everyone in any form of service industry - i.e. why tip a barman (perhaps cocktails are an exception here) all they've done is pour a pint or pass a few bottles from a fridge behind them yet some bars these days have adopted the annoying practice of handing you your change on a small metal saucer as though a tip is expected.... why are the customers expected to supplement the wages of the staff?

Not usually. With pizza I pay by card on the phone when I order, so all they have to do is hand me the goods :p

If the food arrives hot and in reasonable time (45min or so, as the guy on the phone usually says) then I will tip. Unfortunately places in Preston are often rubbish and the food is either stone cold or takes 1-1.5 hours to arrive.

So who do you expect to bring your delivery to you then? Silly child.

It's just a tip.

And most takeaways I pick up.

I tend to buy pizza online these days so I don't have to worry about tipping the delivery people. As for Indian, the one I go to doesn't deliver so you have to go and collect it yourself... in which case I always leave a tip for myself.

I think it's pretty weak to be conditioned in to feeling obliged to tip people working certain jobs.

Don't say it's because they've given good service or are on a low wage because those factors don't even cross your mind, with a view to giving a tip, during encounters with plenty other people.
