a lot/a lot

I hate when people use a lot, but then I use everytime and anytime so I let them off! :p

Iam sorry, I don't have full knowledge of the English language. I must be really stupid. Oh No please help quick!

"Perhaps this common spelling error began because there does exist in English a word spelled “allot” which is a verb meaning to apportion or grant. The correct form, with “a” and “lot” separated by a space is perhaps not often encountered in print because formal writers usually use other expressions such as “a great deal,” “often,” etc. "

You shouldn’t write “alittle” either. It’s “a little.”

I vote we start a petition to get 'a lot' entered into the dictionary.

Just think of the trees we could save if we condensed words like that.

I'm all for NewSpeak \o/
