Turns out we've had GT200 all along - the 9800GX2

According to our associate , GT200 will be the doubled core g92b in one chip with 300-350 sq. mm area. This chip will count more than 900 million transistors. It will be produced by TSMC on the 55- nm standards.

This GPU will have 192 stream processors , united in 8 units, 32 ROP.

The memory interface is planned with 512- bit, memory GDDR3.

Frequencies probably will be determined only a pair of weeks before the release of products .

As a whole, it appears as the two-processor geForce 9800 GX2 in single-processor accelerator. Associate report that the performance Of geForce 9900 GTX will be sufficient for comfortable game play in Crysis with very high setting with 4- AA and resolution 2560 x 1600. But it is difficulty to believe such data .

http://xtreview.com/addcomment-id-5121-view-GT200-predicted-speed.html is the source. I HOPE they're kidding... else Loadsa's going to have a field day

9800GTX playing Crysis at that res? BS I think, the GT200, a refreshed 9800GX2 :p, oh well it wont be that bad.

Well I'll be playing Crysis again all the way through if this new card is that awesome!

Does it have to be ? if those indicated performance figures are anywhere close to 4xaa at that res in Crysis then nobody will care, everybody will be on top of a GT200

Imagine 4/3 of these GT200's in quad/tri sli :p

still, my point is it's not a true architectural refresh

depends on how you define refresh. traditionally a cpu/gpu will have parts refined and improved, and parts where they just add more of everything. theres no difference here - double everything and there you go. twice the shaders, wider memory interface. should be fast.

however,

According to our associate , GT200 will be the doubled core g92b in one chip with 300-350 sq. mm area. This chip will count more than 900 million transistors. It will be produced by TSMC on the 55- nm standards.

considering the g92 count is close to 800 million for a single core, that is either appalling math or they've made it up and not realised the mistake.

Crysis with very high setting with 4- AA and resolution 2560 x 1600

My problem with that statement is that a 9800 gx2 can't even come close to running at that res comfortably.

Okay the new GT200 will have the same memory bandwidth and ddr3 memory and but with the smaller die likely to come at much clock speed at stock and won't be running in SLI mode but all of this can't be enough of a boost surely?

It only gets 20fps average at 2 x aa

http://peripherals.about.com/od/videographicscards/fr/xfx9800gx2.htm

Can't see the GT200 giving a 50% boost to get an average of 30fps plus and average of 30fps still might mean dropping to below 10fps in places and hence not "comfortable" IMO

Ok I am completely confused now. (I can't access the website here at work either which doesn't help)

I have a couple questions: (Although I understand answers to these may still be possibles rather than concrete)

1) Will this require sli to work to its full ability (ie like the 9800GX2 uses SLI) - if not then this could be why it would be able to run crysis at such settings

2) The memory interface: 512bit, is this 512bit literally or 2 x 256bit (again like the 9800GX2)

3) As above but for the rops, is it 32 or 2x16?

4) The amount of stream processors seems wierd, 192 means it isn't simply the 9800GX2.

If it is indeed a 192 stream processor, 32 rop, 512bit card then it could be quite quick indeed!

Hmmm, looks like my 9800GX2 wasn't such a waste of money after all.

Still, it's a shame that Crysis is the only game that will actually use GT200 to its full capacity. It'd be nice to see some new tech really....I wish Ubisoft would stop pushing back Far Cry 2's release.

Hmmm, GT200 PREDICTED SPEED....

didn't a similar thing happen with the HD2900's, predicted and on paper they outperformed Nvidia and in real life they outperformed mid range and needed a lot of:
