All New Summer 2008 Transfer Merry Go Round/Rumour Mill

I disagree.

At the back we have King, Woodgate, Hutton and Bale. That's a decent back four when they're all fit. Add another quality CB and we'll be sorted.

In midfield and attack, we're going to need several new players. It's obvious that Berbatov is off so we need someone to replace him. Modric should fill the AM position well but he'll need a decent DM along side him. Lennon might be off and Malbraque does a job on the left wing but I'm sure we could find better. That's potentially a whole new midfield for the 08/09 season.

I might have to get Keane on my shirt to be on the safe side. I'm sure they'll be a few shock departures before the end of the close season.

I am not disagreeing with the quality we have at the back, but the stats speak for themselves. We have a shocking defence (one of the worst in the league).

Granted, Bale and King have rarely figured, but thats even more reason to strengthen the backline as those coming in are not capable of filling the gap enough to keep clean sheets, you can also include the DM in the defensive problems, because it is their job to provide defensive support.

Attacking wise we havent had a problem this season, we have scored more goals than most teams. Admittedly we havent killed teams off enough and thats something we need to address when we look at Berbatov's replacement (like you I agree with him being off in the summer).

With Berbatov, there is no doubt he is world class but he doesnt do himself any favours with his attitude. He was served us well in the last 2 seasons and has forged a superb partnership with Robbie. However, someone who lacks commitment shouldnt be part of the squad, and hopefully we can get the rumoured £25m for him and bring in a world class replacement.

Trouble is though Arsenal/Wenger would never stump up the sort of money required to steal Ronaldhinho away from Barcelona - let alone meet his wage demands!!
Would be one of THE most exciting transfers though. He certainly would flourish at Arsenal I believe.

He needs out and they already offered the wages to Henry in the pass and there's no doubting Ronaldinho would be a bigger draw. Arsenal wouldn't have any problems stumping up the wages and could afford ~£20m for Ronaldinho too, especially now that Penny Pincher has left.

Saha needs to go...for free if need be. Until he goes, Ferguson is reluctant to bring a striker in because 'Saha might be fit'. A lot of rumours linking us to more midfielders which is a bit strange, maybe he sees an imminent retirement of one the old boys. Or sees Hargreaves as our new right back which I would be quite happy with in all honesty.

I think you're spot on with the part about Hargreaves, but you're wrong about Ferguson. He will bring in a striker and get rid of Saha no matter what, you can see he's fed up with him now and there is no chance he 'might be fit', so I wouldn't worry too much about that.

Man Utd signing a striker and Saha going is the most certain of transfers this summer.

I also want Hargreaves at Right Back full time, he's better than Brown there and more manouverable than Neville. I'd be shocked if Ferdinand isn't our captain next year.

Sorry but that is nonsense. Scholes hasn't been at his best this year but he has been UTD's best midfielder this season, as he was last year. He has good against small teams and great against the big teams, which is what you want from a player at Scholes age. Seems you have to grow dreadlocks, do summer-saults and needless backheals/stepovers to be a great UTD player these days.

Wrong. Anderson and Carrick have both been consistently better than Scholes this season in the Middle as has Ronaldo (he is a Midfielder) on the wing.

Scholes has had games this season which have completely passed him by (man city is a big example). However he has generally been fairly solid, especially recently. Carrick has been our best MF this season though by far.

Put someone within 10 yards of Carrick and that's him out of the game. He has two goals in the league this year, the 2nd last weekend against a terrible west ham team the other a last minute consolation goal against man city. He has hardly any assists- 2 against 18 for Fabregas- a guy with a similar amount of appearances with a similar role/stage in their career.

Lets see how he does against a strong Chelsea midfield in the CL final- hopefully with Essien in there. If Essien/Ballack/Makelele show up he won't get a kick!- have the egg ready ;)

Ronaldo is... well Ronaldo.
Where was Anderson against Barca? Benched-why? Anderson had a good patch when Scholes was out but has been poor in the last 6 weeks. Scholes delivered when it mattered, not just against teams that UTD could beat with 10 men. Anyway OT so i will drop it!

I'm not comparing Carrick against opposition players, just saying he's been our best MF this season and the reason we play such a good passing game is in large part because of him.

He was man of the match against Chelsea earlier in the season at OT, and last season at OT too IIRC. Stats don't show everything.

Carrick has 3 Man of the Match awards from the last 5 games with Chelsea.

Carrick has two ways of playing. When hes allowed space and time he can destroy teams with his passing and is generally our most influential player when this happens.
However, against the better teams, he plays a bit deeper and is more of a protection for the back four. He does both jobs very well.

Not sure about 3 but he definately got motm in the OT fixture last season, and i'm pretty sure it was the same case this season.

It won't be 3 because the other three games were the nothing fixture at SB last season, the cup final and the other week. Won't be any of them.

It was definitely those 2, I'm sure it's 3 because I'm sure I read before the game last week that he had 3 out of 4, and as he didn't get it last match, 3 out of 5.
