Race Driver Grid Demo available (Xbox360)

The graphics are stunning, I'm guessing it uses a variation of the Dirt engine. The car handling is fun more than realistic but as Nate said above it's not trying to be Sim. The menus are super polished and is what I come to expect from Codemasters (Dirts menu system was very sleek).

It's codemasters' new engine. They were rabbiting on about it last year at GameHorizon but wouldn't show it. It's clearly very similar to DiRT and uses the same menu system from DiRT (or at least the same concept - stats being shown on loading screens and rotating around menu's using Right-Stick).

It's very good.

Something that hasn't been mentioned is the sound. It's excellent.

cant wait to try this on my PS3 at 630p with 0xAA this evening !

No PC demo released yet *groan*

This brings back memories of the Bioshock demo fiasco.

Codemasters state there is no exclusive stuff going on.... Yeah right ;)

Was just going to comment on this, 5.1 sounds immense, the voices and the music is amazing too. Just sat in the menu in game while typing this, such a chilled out atmosphere :)

Just played a drift track and the physics and damage to the surrounding world are great! Barriers crumple if you smash them, even blew my car up :( Which leads onto the replay option which is amazing!

Cant get used to driving without the aids on, I'm not a driving game nut so not making the car spin every corner with aids off is pretty hard :P

Funny you should mention that. I went home at lunch and downloaded the demo very quickly and had a couple of races and my first thought was the presentation and graphics are very slick but the sound is immense in full DD 5.1. Superb.

I hadn't actually heard of this game till I saw the thread earlier and now think its a definite buy. I loved RD2 on PC and played that to death with a steering wheel. I think this game will need a wheel too but its great with just a pad.

When is the game out btw? Oh and I was 20 mins late back from lunch :( :D

I would also like to see a PC demo but the last time they did a port (Dirt again :p) it was pretty shoddy with regards performance.

Its out on the 30th of may.

What is this game about then? :)

It's a racing game with track, city and drift modes from the looks of things. It's great fun and turns a little destruction derby in the corners :p.

It does need to be played in the interior view really though because as dannyjo and stig said, it does turn on the central axis which is very noticable from the outside view, which is disappointing.

So far I'm a bit wiffy on this one.

GFX are perfect both in look and the fact that it runs smooth as butter with 20 cars on track and a great damage system. The handling feels 'ok' it may just take a period of getting used to them but it is not as immediately satisfying as the last Race Driver game was (best racer of last gen imho). Part of this may be because I notice they left D-pad steering in for those old old school drivers and had to accommodate them with the handling model. Having said that the DRIFT MODE IS AWESOME and the variety of events is enough for me to pick this up on release. It will just take a bit of time to accept the handling.

*further to that*
In car cam for the muscle car race FANTASTIC, roll on release day.

Hi there,

I actually work for Codemasters, and it's great to see that so many of you are enjoying the demo :)

I think someone mentioned earlier that on one of the corners the game turned into a bit of a destruction derby! Well it may interest you to know that the full game will actually include a destruction derby race complete with a figure of 8 track!!
