Id much rather be called a "******* ******* ********" than the truth behind the stars. Some people offend easily. But I do see your point.

That argument goes the other way aswell, as to why filter those in the OP?

Anyway, enough questioning of OcUK policys, im off to bed.

Ill trusts the dons judgement and assume the current status is based on good reasoning and leave it be. I just wish i could type ***!
 
Sometimes you have to just know how to get around restrictions, so when you must QFT FTW teh forum won't suppress ur actions.

EDIT: For the record the censored word that I wish I could use is NOS, short for New Old Stock, a common term used when talking about old cars.

Perhaps to not encourage laziness, none of the acronyms in the original post (OP if you really want) really add anything to a topic except give people a PC+1 opportunity. You couldn't block every pointless post (and you wouldn't want to) but to remove some of the more obvious ones does make some sense especially as text speak is infinitely more irritating to read.

As for the swearing, I think it is to encourage a bit of restraint, this is nominally a family forum and it isn't a huge amount of effort to refrain from swearing while on here.

You're fighting a losing battle bud... this has been brought up many a times and rejected each and every one. In practicality yes, a swear filter would be the sensible thing to implement, just as 99% of forums do, but from what I understand it the reason for not doing so is one of principle. OCUK dons consider OCUK a bastion of culture and intelligence and moral purity and this take the viewpoint that they rely on the courtesy and dignity of the members to censor themselves and use proper language. Great in theory, rubbish and often unrealistic in practise of course as leaving members to moderate themselves is always asking for trouble, but meh... it's really no big deal all things considered. The forum has many unique little quirks, this is one of them. :)

However I do support the censoring of common intentional text speak... but not the acronyms or popular net speak like F*W or Q*T, that's just a bit silly imo. They are part of net culture now and starring them out isn't going to somehow make them cease to exist overnight, and they 'll still be used regardless.

I quite like having the above starred. If I'm honest I'd love to have all spelling mistakes starred forcing people to make an effort.

PS If we censor swearing it means we can't suspend people, and as a result we'd lose all our thrills & "raison d'être"...
