Have found both for £75

Opinions from both side of the fence would be great.......cash is waiting

No "you should get a GX2" replies please. £75 is my budget :)

i game a SHED LOAD on the pc. in process of selling off my PS2 as its totally redundant. my 19in TFT runs at 1440x900 and i do run with AA and AF if possible at this res.

edit....ah he deleted post lol

To clarify my earlier post, I would choose the 8800GS over the 3850 256mb...but the 512mb 3850 over the 8800GS.

I got mixed up. I forgot that the 9600GSO is the old 8800GS. I was comparing the 9600GT practically to the 3650 lol oops :o.

Yes, the 3850 is the best for the job but AA can be tricky title dependant due to an architectural change from ATI. I found gaming with my 2900Pro fun. I just used no AA or less AA to what I use with my GTX and it was perfectly playable. I was playing at 1600x1200 at the time though.

my 3850 handles AA no problem. Average 60-70fps 1680x1050 2xAA max details in CoD4....i ALWAYS run at least 2x AA, usually 4x AA with no significant performance decrease.

I plugged in my 2900Pro in recently and my overclock isn't miles away from yours. Without v-mods, 850Mhz core and 1000Mhz mem I still feel the burn with CoD4 (multiplayer 20+man servers) and 4xAA @ 1600x1200. CPU speed, ram isn't really a concern at this resolution so maybe what you find playable is different to what I do. I just didn't use AA when playing CoD4 and now use 4xAA with my GTX. I did feel as if the 2900Pro was faster than the GTX without AA in this game. I would use 2xAA but I only see 4xAA acceptable as I feel as 2x doesn't offer enough to use it IMO.

I thoroughly enjoyed my gaming with the 2900. I was that immersed into the games I was playing to even look for jaggies so it didn't bother me and I had great FPS for a smooth and enjoyable gaming experience :).

Without AA I feel as if these cards are nearly as fast as the 8800GTX (feel faster in some) but there are some games out there that paint a different picture even without the jaggy killing AA :).

I game at high resolutions so maybe my opinion is unneeded here as it's a bit misleading. I'll feel the burn before you guys do with your ATI cards so I should just shut up and let you know Phatboy that you won't be disappointed :D.

quick read this morning and found this......thought i would drop it in to the thread, seems like the 8800 is not a bad card, beating the 3870 in some cases (at my resolution)

The 8800 is not a bad card the GS variant should be avoided.

Only if you are getting a 256mb 3850 should a GS be purchased.

Easyrider, phatboy will be running at 1400x900 and the 8800GS starts to run into problems at 1920x1200 as benchmarks show.

Look through all of the game benchmarks and you'll find it's a lot closer than you'd think.

I still think the 512mb 3850 would be the better option but it's your money Phatboy :).

I do see what everyone is saying in the replies etc, but it also seems that overclocked the GS will provide GT level FPS in games.

The 3850 is looking like a better option overall, but i dunno.....i really love budget challenges, and not many people on OCuk have ventured into these cards, and i would like to give an opinion and see what they can do....call me a nutter :p

Actually found the GS for £67 now + p&p which is pretty cool :)

Damn decisions!!!!
