Confused: 8800gt and my motherboard.

The GTS would, but not worth buying as its not got enough memory, so id steer clear of that, the 3870 wouldn't as its PCI-E 2.0 like the 8800 GT/GTS.

Have you not got a friend with a PC that has a motherboard capable of accepting the new cards?. If so you could get the 8800GT, flash the Gen 1 BIOS onto the card and game away happily. I think it's your best bet and people have been flashing their BIOS in here for ages now and it seems pretty easy to do. All the 2900/3850-70/x2 3870 users changed their BIOS to obtain a higher overclock.

If you have the option to attempt the flashing then do so as the 8800GT is a better card to buy than eother the 320mb or 640mb old version of the GTS.

wish i did. most of my friends arent into pc gaming at all . the very few who are havent got a pcie2.0 mobo. one of my friends has a 8600gt in his and another has a amd64 and a old ati 9600pro. hmm ... i guess for now i will stick with a gts seeing as it is so cheap . in about a year i may then upgrade mobo/cpu (only have a e4400)

:( Sorry to hear that.

There's nothing wrong with your PC IMO. It's just the chipset that's causing you upgrade problems.

I would strongly recommend NOT to attempt to run a GTS with that board. The PCIe slot often runs at 8x speeds and will the card will be gasping for bandwidth and you will get graphical corruption and freezes. Also the Chipset isnt strictly 100% compatible with PCIe standards, its just an add on by the MB manufacturers as far as im aware. i'd get a cheap Intel 965 if your on a tight budget.

I tried a 7950GX2 in a machine with the same chipset and had massive issues. The 8600GT is a VERY poor card and low bandwidth, the 8800GTS is FAR more powerful and spending £150 on a gfx card on a system with a £30 MB is asking for trouble.

Just to recap, i'm 99% certain that this combination of card/motherboard will give you no end of trouble.

erm do you mean the old gts ? the 320mb or 640mb one . im now leaning towards the gtx if i can afford it. ive run a 8600gts from my mobo no real problems.
