Aliens whats your view?

...

And before anybody starts - I don't believe in aliens 100%. We might be the only ones out there, sure. But the subject is extremely interesting and there are far too many reports by reliable, professional people to rubbish this story the way the BBC have.

Your ridiculed once you mention Aliens, my family laughs at me and wont even look at the evidence, in fact they laugh if I mention the possibility of life beyond this planet

You will be ridiculed for saying aliens are visiting earth (one would think the effects of a ftl drive would be very obvious to the numerous telescopes, and radio telescopes we have) however the statistical chance of aliens outside this planted it pretty high.

Near 100% sure there is life somewhere else, intelligent/space fairing race ? 99.99999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999% sure, that's almost certain then.

Within a distance for both our races to communicate? probably slim, space is called space for a reason, its massive.

If you travelled back in time only 200 years and tried to explain the technology we have today you would likely be burnt at the stake.

We know space can be warped, its theoretically possible to bend space and travel Hugh distances in the blink of an eye, I believe it was Einstein who theorised this? They might not even be from this dimension. But your right its highly improbable.

It makes me angry the way this subject is treated by the media. And the BBC story linked in the OP is a perfect example. The video is a total p-take and both it and the written story choose to focus on one nutjob who claims to have been in contact with an alien called Harold (or whatever) for years until he was killed by another race of aliens. Of all the tons of data in the decade's worth of investigations why pick that one out? Just to make the whole subject seem like a joke and anybody who gives it a moments thought must be a nutjob themselves, that's why. Disgusting.

Well said,

Newsnight, BBC Breakfast News and the article in the Metro paper this morning all reported this news with a smirk on their face and concentrated on the alien contact story the most.

I gave up being annoyed by this kind of reporting a long time ago, it's almost impossible to convince anyone without them actually doing the hard work and looking through the data themselves. I can totally understand why people laugh at the subject because quite frankly most of it is laughable.

It's just like with the conspiracy theories thread though, people point blank refuse to look into credible information because there is so much outlandish rubbish floating along side it. There are many fringe scientists with clearly dodgy ideas especially in the field of quantum theory. However you don't go throwing out all scientific theorys because of them.

Take each case seperatly, out of the thousands reported it only need one to be real.

Exactly. People just don't take it seriously at all, even when these military and government figures are coming out and basically telling us that major stuff is going on that we dont know about, but still people just laugh and accuse them of being "nutjobs."

It is the media's fault mostly. You've just got to look at the Disclosure Project for the perfect example. So much work and time went into interviewing hundreds of powerful people from around the world and recording their personal accounts and evidence so that it would finally break the seal on the "silly" image thats been attached to the subject and actually be considered a serious issue... but straight after, the news reports all take it half-heartedly as if it were a good laugh or something.

Well frankly I don't believe any of these UFO sighting's...etc, I mean think about it, if they have the technology to come to our planet from where ever the hell they are from, probably a huge distance away, then surely they would have the technology to visit/investigate our planet without detection, something not quite as obvious as a huge object/light in the sky floating around being seen by people.

They might not be as paranoind as us? In less than 100 years flight we have a probe leaving the solar system, what will we have in 1000 years? 10,000 years? 100,000 years?

Well IF Aliens actually are visiting us for whatever reason... why should there actions make sense to us? Who knows what the hell they're doing. Trying to make sense of it in a human way... isn't really the way too look at it, especially just dismissing the whole thing entirely because what they're doing doesn't make sense to you.

Life beyond this planet, fine. You believe that flying saucers (or any craft) have visited us, you deserve redicule.

I supposed the Professors, Doctors, Military personal giving evidence at the Disclosure Project deserve ridicule also? They all went nuts.

Out there yes, visited/visiting earth no.

I put it down to:
Natural Phenomenon (ball lightning, sleep paralyses and stuff we just don't understand yet)
Advanced military aircraft/weapons
and of course those who are just crack pots.

Im surprised by how many of you 'believe' there is intelligent life out there. There isn't any proper evidence, just sightings, rumours, conspiracies. Nothing solid. That doesn't mean there are no aliens, its just that we don't know, and speculation one way of the other is merely speculation.

People who believe in God are often ridiculed. Although there are 1000s around the world who would readily admit they have experienced or witnessed some kind of divine intervention of some form or another. For this reason I cannot see any difference between a real photograph of a Alien spaceship (UFO), and a real piece of burnt toast vividly depicting the Virgin Mary.

All i'm saying is that belief in aliens is futile. We just don't know (for now).

evidence of what? they have no idea what they saw, it could have been secret projects or natural phenomenon. Just because it can't be explained does mean it's confirmed as alien.

Well either they want to make themselves known or they don't. If they have the intelligence to develop technology to potentially travel huge distances in space, it's reasonable to assume they mentally utilise similar concepts that we do, such as logical thinking. How could a lifeform without logical thinking possibly develop such technology?

There's a theory that only humanoid life forms 'similar' to ours could ever achieve space travel through technology.
