The new GTX

It looks like the GT200 or D10U card will sell for US$499 and it will be the perfect replacement for the Geforce 9800GTX. We are not sure about the name. Many people have suggested Geforce 9900GTX and GT brands, but we are not sure if these will really be the final names.

The cards based on the GT200 will sell for $499 and the cards are sampled and work well. Nvidia plans to show the cards to journalists in the last week of May and it’s highly likely to see the launch in June, with retail availability.

It will be fun to see if the GT200 will end up faster than the GX2, and if this single big chip can actually beat a dual chip card. We have a feeling it should.

Looks like us UK peeps would pay around £300 if that is indeed true. I'm tempted by this release but ATi's more value orientated release may swing it for me. June availability would be good.

Though I am tempted with an 8800 GTS 512MB to replace my 320MB GTS, I think I will just buy a new gen card.

The worst thing you can do in PC upgrading to me is only do a small upgrade, I always feel like I have wasted my money. I really want to be able to play through Crysis (which I still have not played other than the demo) at high res at a decent FPS with the new card.

As for whih one I will go with, I am not sure - I wouldn't mind an ATI card (I like to alternate between ATI then NV, ATI then NV) but if NV are once again faster I well just keep with them this gen.

Dark Angel you may aswell hang on for this card now what with it being fairly close.

Yeah, I think you are right my friend.

Age Of Conan I hope will just about run on 1920x1200 with no AA when I buy it, or maybe at 1680, Mass Effect too :p

I will have to just deal with the lower res if needed and just get the new card then - I think I will get a 1GB version though of either the ATI or the NV. After buying the 320MB GTS I don't ever want to have the "my gpu could do with a bit more memory" feeling ;)

what 'value' can we/are we expecting for the ATi parts anyone know? less than the Nvidia offering? might be only way I can afford a new card in june/july otherwise

Well from what i have been reading ati plan to bring there new range of cards in round about the same prices as the 3 series cards. Obviously on launch the prices will be higher as the demand for the cards will be higher and the stock probably won't keep up. If this is true i bought my 3870 for 150 at launch so going by this maybe a 4870 will be around the same. 4850 maybe around 120-130 as this was what the 3850 came in at but the real answer is no one knows atm just have to sit there and wait till some news arrives.

The GT200 is supposedly the 9800 GX2 on 1 chip, so instead of it being 2x cards with 2x cores stuck together, with one card having its PCI-E connector cut off, this is those 2x cores from those 2x cards on 1 chip (like Intels Core 2 Duo's), on a single PCB so its a proper single card.

sounds good to me.

If the $499 is correct, prolly looking at more like £400....dropping to £350 after 2-3 weeks.

I think it would make a lot of sence to wait, the high end GPU market is dead at the minute, so the price will fall over the first month a lot more than it used to.:)

Any new tech in the new ATi and nvidea cards besides just more horse power?

Accoring to the ATi fanboys round here, Nvidia are selling you a 7900 or something, while ATi's new gear will do holographic displays 3 feet in front of your monitor in 16000x10000.

In the real world, it seems, more horsies all round really.
