I smoke and have done for 40 years, I have no health problems.
To say a smoker is stupid, is a wide ranging statement.
Drinking to excess and obesity are becoming more of a problem now for the NHS than smokers.

No health problems, yet!

I agree that doing anything obsessively is harmful so food and drink is no exception.

I wouldn't go as so far as to call all smokers stupid but when the packet contains statements like "risk of death" and "smoking kills" I do think you have to wonder what the motivation is to keep smoking! (apart from the obvious addiction).

Unless the Govermnet and health professionals are telling bare faced lies I don't see why you wouldn't heed their advice and stop smoking, if the are telling bare faced lies what is their motivation for doing so (I'm sure the Government loves the TAX revenue).

I've only ever smoked when I've been really really drunk and just bought a packet of fags because I was being a ****... Don't like them glad I'm not addicted. Remember buying a pack when I was 18 just for the experience of smoking a cigarette sober. Never even bothered to spark up. In the end I just posted them thru a letterbox of an abandoned building where I knew a local tramp slept. I'm sure he made good use of them.:)

By the way I try not to judge smokers as I'm totally addicted to food and drink so am just glad I'm not addicted to fags as well. Although it might surpress my appetite a little......

I smoke about a dozen roll-ups every evening. I don't smoke at work for the simple reason that I can't be bothered to go outside to do so.

like every kid, i tried it once - and it was disgusting. and i've never smoked since.

now i don't have a problem with people who smoke - most people i know do. but one thing always makes me laugh - they might enjoy it now - but not a single smoker i've asked has said they enjoyed their first cigarette. if it was so bad (like i found), then why the hell did they continue? :D

You've twisted my arm, I'll do it for free ;)

And how are cigars any diffrent? They'll kill you just as quick, if not faster.

As said, I smoke cigars perhaps once a week then I might not smoke one for months. Despite having loads of them I havent smoked one in six weeks, I do it as I enjoy the flavour/smell not because I am addicted to it and only smoke one when I actually feel like having one.

I quit on the day I left school, and haven't had one since. It wasn't for health reasons, as there was no health scare associated with cigarettes in those days.

My reason for quitting was that I worked out that, at one shilling and elevenpence ha'penny for a packet of ten, it was costing me far too much.

Back when I were a lad, I used to have the odd one or two here and there to supplement drunkeness. I've probably smoked less than 10 in my life, and none for about the last 10 years.

There's nothing like the headrush I had when half cut and toking on a Camel. Evil things!

i drifted into it really and have never wanted to quit as yet although in a few years i will have been smoking for 10 years and as it stands 24 royals lasts me the day, or a 50g pouch lasts 4 days...but when i have tried to stick to a 20 deck i fail.

if i ever do want to quit i imagine it will be easier to just stop cold turkey (like my mum) rather than mess about, although heaven forbid i end up getting addicted to the gum (like my dad). for the record he is off that now and after a stint on normal gum is on diet coke and brown bread as his addiction of choice.
