Wait, Sheffield? Sorry, should I retract my opinion now that I know you went there? As if the institution you attended makes any difference. You do have a good handle on sarcasm though! I guess walking past the people who are trying to raise awareness of an issue and making sarcastic comments (while on the way to buy a kit-kat) has helped you develop this ability.

I don't know what your comment about the state means. Apparently it was funny though? HAHAHA.

In esscence, what you said was that 'bad' things shouldn't be banned, they should just be left for the consumer to decide. I merely pointed out that this cannot work, as some 'bad' things are just not acceptable.

And you also seem to think that a small group of people would remove all Nestle products from shelves in your local area. This just isnt the case. In my 6th form they used the protests to educate, and then allowed people to vote on removing the Nestle vending machine. They lost, the machine stayed, but the message was conveyed.

No I'm saying a small group banned and removed all nestle products from university machines + shops which they did...

They did it before i even came to this uni.


Microsoft has been found guilty of numerous anti trust cases, do you use windows?

But yeah, if you wanted to make a stand recruiting Muslim terrorists, as long as you didn't only recruit Muslims, and did not promote or conspire to commit acts of terrorism, and did this within the remit of the law i would not mind, although then you'd just be a multicultural meeting recruitment center.

ciggerets and alcohol also bad but not banned you're allowed to choose whether you use them or not.

No, a small group of people would not have removed the products. What has happened is that the university has felt strongy enough in itself to disagree with selling Nestle and have taken action.

Not all non-ethicals things have been banned, proved nicely by you with the example of Nestle and MS. Both exist, both are legal, but that doesnt mean everyone agree and shouldnt mean that people are not allowed to dissagree. There ability to dissagree should definately not be regulated by them being a student either. Students are people too you know!

no the university council got rid of them, they also chose to twin us with a Palestinian university with 12 suicide bombers and a martyrs week to celebrate them.

Also iirc the voting percentage for this years council elections was something like <20%

And so i was right that you use windows?

Surely that makes you a hypocrite? do you think you shouldn't be given the choice to use windows if you like?

Erm, lets throw some fuel on the fire.. maybe some people are forced the buy the cheap unethical food products because they cant afford anything else.. maybes some students even do.. because of debts etc??

Nobody forces anyone to buy the none-fair trade stuff, its just the fact some people are tight on money..

How about you students stop trying to annoy people, save your money and give it the poor so they can buy fair trade too?
Stop trying to make decisions for people, get a bloody degree and sort out the world when you actually have a position of power.
Im sick of the retarded campaigns at our Union, always on the open-days etc, nobody gives a ****, shut the **** up about the war, shut the **** up about animal testing etc.

Im a student, i couldnt give a hoot if somebody doesnt care what I think, why should they? I dont contribute much to society, I havnt worked hard to get into a position of power, im just somebody with too much free time.

That's some classic irony there, sonny. I guess your attempts to antagonize me (and subsequent lack of success) must be frustrating. Oh, there I go making assumptions again, how silly!

The only problem is that you don't live in the 'real world' - you live in a bubble of ignorance about what goes on in said 'real world' because it doesn't affect you (yet). When/If it does, you will be less inclined to ignore it.
 
You know, the quote frankly shocking outcome of this thread is the number of students or ex-students who dont take any offence at all at being called tax evading jobless drunken governmnet money spending uneducated rude and dirty low-lifes, and instead try to defend such stereotypes...

yeah the ones protesting for free education, and the removal of "unethical" companies from investing in the uni ***me off,as without both of those, they'd be forced to shut down the chem department.

You seem to feel very strongly against this university, yet you chose to go there? Did you vote in this 20% turnout?

Yes, i use windows, Im also aware of the alternatives and choose to use it. I also voted FOR the Nestle vending machine, i dont really care to much. What your missing is that im not saying i dont agree with Nestle or MS, im saying why should your personal views prevent other people from stating theres that differ from yours?

And also look at you're self your proposing to remove the freedom of choice in your shopping, and comparing tesco's to a terrorist recruitment center.

It's a question of morals really. Do you not think it's a pretty immoral standpoint to not care about people dieing in the way and animals being tested on (to use your examples). Fair enough you don't have to care, but why hate on people who do care and want to try and change it?

That's the thing though my views ae "let them sell them, let people choose to buy them or not" my views do not stop those not wanting to buy nestle from buying it,
yet others views are stopping people that want to buy nestle from doing so.

No i feel strongly against the people in charge of the union, i like the university, and I go here because it offerers a very good course that is recognized in industry.

You see i chose my uni on the course, not the union.
 
Plenty of students are arses, plenty are intelligent, work hard and behave. Everyone is individual. Job done?
