Students...all ****ers?

No i feel strongly against the people in charge of the union, i like the university, and I go here because it offerers a very good course that is recognized in industry.

You see i chose my uni on the course, not the union.

So you didnt choose your uni based upon the union, yet feel you have a right to bitch about it? So if you are that opposed I suppose you are running to join the Union comittee next year then? What are you going for? Vice president? Whats your campaign?

And you answered your own question.

The only problem is that you don't live in the 'real world' - you live in a bubble of ignorance about what goes on in said 'real world' because it doesn't affect you (yet). When/If it does, you will be less inclined to ignore it.

Should I be worried, you seem to think you know me on a personal level

Please have a go. Surely four years of education at a (fairly) good institution has taught you how to convey a point at least legibly and coherently?

Just reads as trying to throw insults back in a tit-for-tat manner, so I'll leave, because I just don't care.

Tell you what, make up a petition about it.

Well consider that 95% of the candidates for every position this year's manifesto was (and this is true they all had to be published in the paper)

"I am against racism"

"i am against sexism"

"i am for multi culturalism, and free education"

that's pretty much it, not one had a decent policy between them.

No i won't be running as I find the people there to be surreal quite frankly, and after attending the meeting about the olive tree all it contained was jews on one side saying no , and Muslims on the other saying you're all racists.

We got up and left half way through (in between the speeches), and I can honestly say I have never seen so many people want to kill me.

Now if one of the candidates for the chemistry department, had been running with policies off we will protest for more face time/ an extra day of labs, / updated spectrometers, and replace the old uv spectrometers."

Then sure I'd be out there with them.

But i don;t fancy joining a load of plonkers who actually protested against AIDs, thats right they held a protest against AIDs, not more money to fund research, just against AIDs in general it seamed.

And you answered your own question.

Eh I'm not defending drunks?

Also you completely failed to explain how my view of "let people chose in store" restriction others, yet the view of "ban it all" doesn't?

can someone explain to me how current students doing vocational degrees and having a student loan that they have to pay back are more lazy wasters than people say 10 years ago doing say.... classics... english.... latin.... and getting a grant? one gets and obvious job and eventually pays back there debt to society the other has no idea what there going to do at 21ish when they graduate...

also in my second year i went out up to and including 5 times a week... i didn't get lashed every night maybe had 4/5 big nights in the whole time but i remeber the ones where you go out for a quick pint and end up on a pub crawl with your awesome mates.

students are some of the best people in the world i've had more drunken philosophical debates than chats about football/sport. sure students tend to cause havoc but we it's more genral tomfoolery than actual damage and as one of the earlier posters said... we aren't impolite when we get told to stop doing somthing we don't tell people to **** off we learn and grow. chavs drink heavily till they die students drink heavily for 3 years and then move into a nine to five paying slightly more tax than everyone else to pay of there loans

Buh-bye now.

He'll be back. Every comment has been a tit-for-tat backlash comment, yet he still cannot understand the irony of a student agruing against others students trying to defend themselfes in a thread about students being scum!

Its like deviding by zero!

It's a question of morals really. Do you not think it's a pretty immoral standpoint to not care about people dieing in the way and animals being tested on (to use your examples). Fair enough you don't have to care, but why hate on people who do care and want to try and change it?

I do have morals yes, do you?
I do care, but im also educated enough to realise that its not so clear cut.

Family A)
3 Kids, Struggling to get by, buy smartprice foods, buy all those cheap horrible things, like caged hen eggs(I bet you lot buy them as well, you hypocrites)
because if they didnt they wouldnt have a roof over their heads.

This is because we dont live in a perfect society.

I do care about this, but theres a market there, and sometimes people need these cheap foods to survive. So you could stop campaigning and get a job, and give your money earnt to the poor to they didnt have to buy it, then there wouldnt be a market and hey prestooo...

Animal testing.. well.. we know its ethically and morally wrong, and its a lot different to what it used to be is it not? Its not right, but its now more humane, it also allows for medical breakthroughs etc.. so its a double edge'd blade. Said animals wouldnt even be alive unless we allowed them to, which is wrong as we are effectively god as far as their lives are concerned, but we as a dominant species do this, its quite logical to try and advance our world and lives at lesser beings expenses, though wrong all the same.

I do care, but some things have reason and can be justified to an extent.

yeah because all student's must agree and all be the same

You are a student? Correct?

If so, you have been branded scum, useless, and a waste of time and money. Yet you have completely ignored this to pursue quite frankly stupid arguments with other students that are becoming petty cat fights, which is actually re-enforcing the stereotype most of us students are here to dissagree with!

I have seen a quite a few friends go into degrees. Many of them played it like no tomorrow for a while, but then put in a prodigious amount of effort for the last year of two. So no, not all students are ****ers IMO, they just need time to adjust to what is expected of them/required to get the job done properly.

No I already defended against that much earlier in the thread.

There comes a point in many arguments where one party leaves knowing they will never get their opinion across to the narrow minded other, and the other party is left feeling victorious as they wrongly believe the first to be leaving in defeat.

This time has come...

Oh those pesky students, whatever will they protest against next? Nothing will ever change. Slave labour is OK as long as I get my Kit-Kat and exploitation is OK as long as I get my coffee.

To summarize;

thread part a) Some students deserve the stereotypes, some don't. No social group can be generalized by a sweeping statement such as the OP.

thread part b) Let people protest whatever they like. Maybe one of the protesters will become powerful enough to incite change.
