Damn you ban hammer!

You do know what it is for, as pointed out here already.

Effective because it's impossible to ignore.

I disagree. I've been suspended once or twice (quite recently) and it never told me the reason when I logged in. I had to email several mods to find out.

Wait I know what it was now, it just occured to me, two of my sig images were 2 pixels too high (all sorted now you pixel peepers you!)

Well on my own board I don't bother to email people for some bans. Particularly if they were just being an ass. I simply wait for them to send me the inevitable "omg why have you unfairly banned me???" email.

I mean, if they didn't read the rules, or did but broke them anyway, then it's their own fault they got banned\suspended and quite frankly not my problem. If you break the rules you should be damn thankful if you get any communication from the staff whatsoever tbph.

There's something wrong then because it should show you a reason along with the date the ban is to be lifted. Sometimes a reason isn't left but it should still show the date.

It is not standard proceduire to email everyone who is banned. If the person doesn't know why (and most of them know rightly) then they should email a moderator and ask. Emailing everyone would be far too time consuming.

Who banned me for "stonednes?"

Reading my posts next day was hilarious one was just random letters mixed in with the words fascist and extremist :p

That person will identify themselves if they want to. Otherwise, we don't give out that information.
I can't see "stonedness" mentioned anywhere in your notes so I don't know anyway.

no worries this thread just reminded me is all. awesome reason though :p

You have been banned for the following reason: Your stonedeness is doing my head in Date the ban will be lifted: 22nd Apr 2008, 10:00 PM

from msn chat history with azza.

That's why I think whoever does a banning should identify themselves in the note. If someone wanted to query a suspension, they can easily email the person directly instead of pestering another mod about it when all they can do is direct them to the ban-er.

That makes sense, I had to trouble Baddass to get confirmation details of few things due to lack of clarity in this instance.
Baddass was very helpful though and sorted it out promptly.

Some of the other dons though either never responded at all or said they would and forgot about poor old me!

It happens I suppose :)

That explains it then - a date was left... in the end it was a simple mistake of me posting in my for sale thread and it being misconstrued as a bump. Ah well!

Thanks bud.

Then get more dons if the present lot can't cope?

Sometimes the rules are hard to follow particularly because they're being broken all the time so it's assumed that certain aspects of them are being relaxed. It's totally unfair to punish a select few.

I got banned a while ago for mentioning a "competitor" selling an Attenborough DVD at a significantly lower price than somebody was offering in the MM. This is obviously nothing near what OcUK sell and so I deemed it acceptable to mention the competitor.* I also deemed it acceptable to mention this to the seller who as it turned out didn't mind receiving such information. I got a week ban for this yet a quick look in the MM will reveal that this happens all the time - even in my own thread! I was asked upon emailing a don to report such issues and when I did - nothing happened, no posts deleted/bans issued whatsoever lol?

*Said competitor even has threads started all the time about it when things go wrong with using it.

Tefal, it was I that banned you for that. You were doing my head in.

mrk, you were not suspended for anything to do with your sig. It was for swearing and a note was left on your account. You should have seen it when you signed in.

The present lot cope fine. If it is a very obvious rule break then the Dons aren't required to email out. As seek has surmised that is the way we approach things here. If it is not a clear rule break then the member would be emailed with the reason.

Either way notes are left on the account.

Plainly no matter how many members of the moderating team we had we'd never have as many eyes and ears on the forum as the general populace, so we ask that rule breaks be reported on. Not doing so and complaining that rule breaks aren't being picked up on is ridiculous. If you are reporting things and they aren't being picked up on then contact a member of the mod team - it may be that you have misconstrued a rule.

Oh! I remember that now, but it wasn't "me" swearing so to speak, it was a quote I pasted and never noticed the word...!

It has just said, words to the effect of "posting in this thread is not allowed"

When I was suspended it said why, well it gave a general idea, no specifics

How do you get suspended twice since january?

I couldn't manage to get a mods e-mail adress when I was banned, 'cause you can't access their profile.
