yes they do, only for warnings though. I have one from freefaller for insulting the French army(only a joke one) and there was a big thread on it.
Fair enough, I didnt get a PM either

You do know what it is for, as pointed out here already.
Effective because it's impossible to ignore.
I disagree. I've been suspended once or twice (quite recently) and it never told me the reason when I logged in. I had to email several mods to find out.

Who banned me for "stonednes?"
Reading my posts next day was hilarious one was just random letters mixed in with the words fascist and extremist![]()
You have been banned for the following reason: Your stonedeness is doing my head in Date the ban will be lifted: 22nd Apr 2008, 10:00 PM
That's why I think whoever does a banning should identify themselves in the note. If someone wanted to query a suspension, they can easily email the person directly instead of pestering another mod about it when all they can do is direct them to the ban-er.There's something wrong then because it should show you a reason along with the date the ban is to be lifted. Sometimes a reason isn't left but it should still show the date.
It is not standard proceduire to email everyone who is banned. If the person doesn't know why (and most of them know rightly) then they should email a moderator and ask. Emailing everyone would be far too time consuming.

I do find this forum to be very-ban happy when a warning would probably suffice.

Wait I know what it was now, it just occured to me, two of my sig images were 2 pixels too high (all sorted now you pixel peepers you!)
Then get more dons if the present lot can't cope?
Sometimes the rules are hard to follow particularly because they're being broken all the time so it's assumed that certain aspects of them are being relaxed. It's totally unfair to punish a select few.
I got banned a while ago for mentioning a "competitor" selling an Attenborough DVD at a significantly lower price than somebody was offering in the MM. This is obviously nothing near what OcUK sell and so I deemed it acceptable to mention the competitor.* I also deemed it acceptable to mention this to the seller who as it turned out didn't mind receiving such information. I got a week ban for this yet a quick look in the MM will reveal that this happens all the time - even in my own thread! I was asked upon emailing a don to report such issues and when I did - nothing happened, no posts deleted/bans issued whatsoever lol?
*Said competitor even has threads started all the time about it when things go wrong with using it.
It has just said, words to the effect of "posting in this thread is not allowed"
