Isaiah Otieno, a 23-year-old student, was killed when he was struck and dragged by a helicopter that crashed to the ground as he was walking to the mailbox.

What are the chances? Karma for irritating people around him with the tinny echo of loud music being played on earphones?

Bizarre nonetheless and I'm glad I won't be using earphones when out running each morning!

See, this is why I hate in ear headphones (also because they disagree with the shape of my ears) and don't listen to music all together when cycling :p

For fear of having a helicopter land on me.

poor bloke, but i guess this will send across a message that listening to very loud music through earhpones could be fatal when it comes to motor vehicles, be it a car OR helicopter, although i think this incidence is most probably a one off, and very unlucky. still, he could have avoided it if it hadnt had his ipod too loud :p

Why the hell should that spur a debate on the safety of using headphones?

Who on earth would ever consider the dangers of a helicopter crashing into them whilst walking down the road. If he'd been knocked over by a car..

I wonder what he was listening to........
Down on Freestreet?

I have started listening to podcasts on the way to work but I may have to stop now for fear of helicopter related death. :( :D

Well there you go kids, proof that listening to ipods increase your risk of being killed by a helicopter, as proven by something on the internet.
