How many icons..
Use quick launch and clear it up
i sometimes hide all icons and just have a desktop toolbar (bottom right)

can't be doing with quicklaunch as i have some things with the same icon - also my screen isn't wide enough - i certainly don't want a double height taskbar either.

are you running vista with aero enabled? then use the windows key+tab to switch apps.
edit: just noticed your screenshot above -looks like you're running xp... there might be some 3rd party application that will do it. i haven't a clue though....
A few of the sites provide links, but they are either broken or moved URL.
I give up. Not really that bothered. Just thought it looked cool!

Neither have I but I guess I default to alt-tab as opposed to win-tab or middle mouse button. It's just what you're used to.
Mine at the minute, nothing too exciting.
