Race Driver: Grid

Must admit I'm learning to use my new steering wheel (saitek r440) and don't actually drive, so have caused a few bumps recently, but my drivings becoming a lot smoother than using a joypad.....

PC GAMING IS HELL!

This is the first game thats tempted me back to PC gaming in years. Ive had nothing but headaches.

So ive:
1) Purchased a 8800GT OC2 gfx card
2) Downloaded the latest drivers
3) Fresh install of the demo (downloaded twice)
4) Go to run the game and im getting MAJOR pauses/stalls sometimes locking at 1-2fps according to fraps even on starting a race.

So annoyed as this is what drove me away from PC gaming, why the heck am i having these problems as many of you guys are using such settings with similar cards, someone PLEASE help im about to stick my foot into this PC.

Vista Ultimate 4 GB RAM AMD 6000 with 512MB 8800GT OC2 card
Creative soundcard set to GAME mode. 1680x1050 res, in game setting to High and Ultra.

Id suggest trying differant drivers personally...

I had some weird graphical corruption when i first tried Grid, i was using the latest Catalyst 8.4 drivers, i removed them and installed 4month old Catalyst 7.12 drivers and it ran perfectly...

I realise youre using a nVidia card but its worth a shot... Every other game i play worked fine with the latest drivers so maybe Grid is particularly hard on its drivers.

I have a 8800gt card and an amd 5000x2 black edition cpu.
The game runs at between 50-60fps checked with fraps.
I am running my pc with windows xp and use the latest nvidia drivers 175.15.
I can not use 1680*1050 because of my monitor so i have to use 1440*900 with all game settings at max.
The only thing i can think of is the difference in operating systems.
I tried vista ultimate on my pc a while ago and beacause of loads of problems i went back to xp.
Have you tried any test programs like aquamark to see what score you get.

1680x1050 res, in game setting to High and Ultra.

Drop these settings down and a lower res. I think those settings are maybe too much for your system.

I only get 40-60fps with this game at 1360x768 and you're rig looks slightly lower speced than mine.

Even at those high setting there is no way he should get 1-2fps.
I have a system nearly the same as his and at 1440*900 i am getting between 40-60fps
These are the system specs recommended by codemasters for the game.
Windows XP/Vista. (If running Windows Vista, SP1 is recommended)
DirectX 9.0c
Intel Core 2 Duo @ 2.66Ghz or Athlon X2 3800+
2GB RAM.
Graphics Card: GeForce 8800 or Radeon X1950
Sound Card: Creative Sound Blaster X-Fi Sound Card.
Dual Layer Compatible DVD-ROM Drive
12.5 GB Hard Drive Space

Mr Lattes system is better than what codemasters say.
He should be getting good fps with his system if it is showing 1-2fps something is set up wrongly.

There's nothing wrong with his settings, I have a very similar spec PC, and I get >40 fps all the time with high/ultra and 4xAA.

I'd try different drivers, and check some other games to see if the problem lies with Grid or not.

Thats what i advised him to do as well try aquamark and see what score he gets to see if its anything to do with the game or is it a problem with his pc.
With his pc he should be getting at least 40fps with high/ultra.
Do you use vista as i went back to xp because of loads of problems with games.

What sort of times are you guys getting on the USA track?

My best is 1:42.02 (with gamepad)

Completely useless at touring though.

Yeah, you're right. I didn't read that bit about 1-2 fps! :o Definitely something not right there somewhere.

Whats your power supply ? Extra power cable connected to the GPU ? Latest drivers for sound card ?

Core2 quad Q6600 no overclock
2 gig Corsair ddr2 in dual channel mode
BFG 8800 GTS 512meg

Got everything set to high and it's running smooth as anything @ 1680x1050

How are you guys taking screen captures in the game?

Try Fraps the best for me :)

I will look into the things mentioned and try that aquamark also thanks for the help.
SP1 is installed as are the latest Graphics drivers, i dont know how old my soundcard drivers are but i very much doubt they are the problem.

GFX power is indeed connected and using a quality 550W PSU

Will re-run the Vista performance rating thing too.

I have the exact same system esxcept with 4 gigs instead of 2 (which probably makes f/a difference) and I run it 99% smoothly on medium at 1680*1050. If it didn't slow right down on one particular corner (before the big hill on USA) and if I was more of a graphics nut than a speed nut, I'd probably raise it a little.
