Hi there,

I have just opened up Computer Management -> Disk Management to look at the partition structure as there seemed to be some space "missing".

There is a partition there which isn't visible from My Computer but is shown in Disk Management.

According to disk management is it 100% free capacity and has a "EISA Configuration". Anyone know what is it for/what is it doing?

Thanks.

Erm - not sure I quite understand.

Why is it over 9GB then? Because I am sure any program in the BIOS wouldn't unpack to 9GB! Its just 9GB is over 12% of the disk space so....I am wondering if it is nessesary.

What I am doing is putting XP on the Laptop because it isn't quite up to using Vista (1.8Ghz Celeron M with 512MB RAM :P).

But I would like to be able to restore it to its original condition (just the install - not the partition config) if I want to (Vista install), so I take it I should leave the partition structure as it is?

So that's why its 9GB? Its the recovery partition?

If so, why does it show as 100% free in windows?

it can be that large i believe. i dont know why though. we sell a lot of acers at work and they all seem to have a large recovery partition like the one you have. im not sure why it shows as 100 percent free though.

edit: dont touch the recovery partition if you want to be able to put it back to vista, because i cant guarantee with the recovery disks, that they work without that partition being visible/present

Thanks - will follow your advice and leave it alone :)
