Ps3 console sold out

Well if past MGS are anything to go by it will be cramed with cut scenes. I like some of them but they do tend to go on a bit and with 50gig on a Disc i hold my breath

From Eurogamer first impressions:-

Anyone who's familiar with the series - and any less than a rabid fan - will know that this is a mixed blessing. You have to put up with a lot to appreciate the fruits of Kojima's very personal and stubborn brand of auteur genius. This was never more true than it is of Metal Gear Solid 4. You have to subvert or repress many of your natural gaming instincts to safely negotiate its coldly exacting gameplay, and you have to leave the pad untouched through hour after hour of exposition and sermonising in cut-scenes and codec conversations. The latter take up a quite staggering proportion of the game's length; think the infamous MGS2: Sons of Liberty, and you won't be far wrong.

edit re: 80gb I wouldn't hold my breath for full b/c, same as E.U 60gb *maybe* but I doubt we'll see full hardware b/c PS3s like the U.S 60gb , though to be fair its only a small fraction of games that are affected.

Have to say it the 'philosophy' in mgs 2 was pseudo intellectual tripe of the highest order. Utterly nauseating. Calling kojima an auteur is as pretentious as the game will likely be tbh.

I popped in a shop yesterday just to have a look at PS3 prices, and they were sold out too. If the 80gb is on the horizon, I'm not going for a 40gb now though :p

im in the market for a ps3 and thinking of buying one before the end of the month.

im not too sure if this business of an 80gb version will make me wait though; i read the 60 gb one (which my friend has) doesnt really have that much more going for it - backwards compatability with ps2 (i dont care about the games just want it as a blu ray player) and an extra usb slot -- oh and silver 'piping'
but on the downside they are noisier and get hotter.

is that about right ?

so im not expecting great things from an 80 gb version apart for an exhorbitant price increase for an extra 40 gb.
in the long run it would probably be more cost effective to just buy a 250 gb sata 2.5" hard drive from oc/uk and slap that in anyway .

If this 80gig version is ever actually released it would use the same manufacturing process as the 40gigs so the heat produced and sound would be exactly the same. All it would have is some card readers, an extra 2 USB slots and PS2 backward compatability.

Personally i'd just get a 40gig and a slimline PS2 if its THAT much of an issue.
