Vauxhall Astra Turbo opinions?

nuff said

i'd rather spent 7k in a brothel then on an astra, rather take the bus too, it has a less chavier image lol

That statement is so wrong its unreal.

The is nothign chavvy about a standard example of an Astra GSi or SRi-T.

They are the VXR's of their model, and if they had brought in the VXR branding then, i'm sure they would be badged as VXR's, rather than GSi's.

5K will not get you a GSI...! Might get you another Astra, maybe with a turbo!

Myself, id love a the Astra GSI :) Wanted one for a few years now...! But feel petrol is bad enough in the 1.8 never mind a 2.0 Turbo!

Nice cars, but you can do better for £7k (no, I don't mean a CTR in particular).

For seven big ones, it's a good car. Why have a good car though, when you can have a really good one. The main issue with GSI's seems to be that there aren't really that many, and they are still expensive for what they are.

These are just my opinions though. Test drive a couple, and try out some other metal too (LCR, ITR, CTR, ATR, ST170 and the like), and see what you think. A lot of people pimp one particular car because they own/have owned it, or have read reviews and used that knowledge to form an opinion which may well differ to yours. Not many people are in a position to say which ~200bhp car is the best (although I'd go for an ITR given the choice).

I'm a happy owner of a CTR, but I haven't really driven any similar cars, and often wonder what it would be like to change to an ITR or something else (although I really need the convenience of the CTR anyway).

What is an ATR... i think i know what the rest are? lol

After just happening upon a cheap 55 plate RX8 and seeing just how ridiculously the prices have fallen of older cars, the OP could afford to buy one! Not sure if he could afford to run one, but buy one - yes!

I really wanted to like the one I drove a couple of years ago (which was up for not much more than 7k) as I've always liked them. But stepping back into the 172 afterwards I just couldn't do it.

Interior was nice enough, engine was good and tuning potential is great. Handling wasn't bad at all for the majority of driving.

The gearbox really killed it for me though, was like stirring treacle :(

Could still be tempted though, woul dneed to have a good drive of one again.

I'm thinking of getting the Mk4 GSI when I get bored of the Mk3 GSI I currently own.

Standard the Mk4's are OK but throw on some decent suspension and remap the engine and they're not bad at all.

You can get a Turbo for £5k, I can point you in the direction of one. Usually they're between 5-6K for a decent condition example.

Got to love all the OcUK Vauxall haters lmao

I have always like these and even thought about it over an LCR (as the next car). IMO it looks better than the LCR does, handles just aswell as an LCR will but supposidly is not as much fun.

I havn't driven the GSI yet, but the LCR is a awesome car.

The great thing about the GSI is its as tuneable as the LCR.

These can be made fast! My mate has one at just under 300bp (a lot of shared items from the VXR iirc)

It's not a good handling car though (even with coilies and geometry setup), and always struggles to get the power down.

Anything FWD over 200+ BHP is 'fun' to drive. My Astra isnt far off 300BHP and is more than a handful if you're not careful. I'm fitting an LSD to mine. Your friend would do well to get one for his Mk4.

I love the GSI - in fact id just like the front bumper so it can go on ours :D

GSI front and Pro-Drive rear = :D
