Organ Donations

I was talking to a med' student just the other day who informed me that many uni's have closed their anatomy dep'ts down because there are not enough bodies being donated for research.

Donating organs is one thing, but the idea of my naked corpse being poked and prodded by students just doesn't appeal. Despite the fact that it is obviously a very good cause.

Hats off to those who do donate themselves though, but it just isn't for me. Sorry. :(

Moral guilt tripping is worse than anything else.

haha i had to give a laugh at this...

Every religious person i have ever met (literally) has tried moral guilt tripping me about something or other....

Sod it, i'm happy for my organs to be given away to someone. I know that if one of my family (or even me) required an organ and got it from someone who had died and given it up....i can't quite put into words my gratitude towards them.

I don't know how anyone could sit there and say they wouldn't give up an organ to help someone in need....

Bit of a weird example, but it's like having a feast in front of a starving person, then throwing away the left overs just because "the food was mine and i can do what i want with it"

EDIT: just had a thought - i think they should make a new rule that they can only transplant organs to people who are donor registered. That ought to get a few more people on the list ;)

I say it is up to you personally if u want to give or not, it is your body at the end of the day.

However the only thing i dont understand is people saying they dont want anyone prodding around in their body when they're dead etc, altho its quite likely you will have a post mortem performed on you when you die anyway so they might as well use your organs if your already cut open and possibly taking out your organs for further examination etc. Also you will probably have the embalmer people sticking all kinds of tubes and crap into you pumping u full of chemicals so you dont start rotting before your funeral, so u might as well just give up your organs :p

If you were involved in a bad accident, would you feel safe in the knowledge that the people trying to save you, know you're a donor? Because I don't.
Not only do I feel safe in the knowledge, but I also know that it isn't even a consideration - particularly in A&E where it is very unlikely that they would even know either way. Plus the fact that you can become a donor without ever carrying a card if your NOK consent means that everyone is a potential donor anyway

You might be right about the first paragraph to be honest. There is a true story about the medical students at a certain university taking pictures of a naked male cadaver and getting kicked off the course.

Rare, but it's not as if medical students are saints.

AFAIC, they can take all the photos they like.

As long as my organs & various other parts are appropriately distributed, they can string what's left of me from a ceiling hook and use it as a piñata for all I care.

:)

I'm guessing you haven't seen the slightly disturbing video and photos that were taken in the morgue of a damn good looking young girl who died in a car crash not long back. Trust me, if you had seen it you wouldn't say what you did!

I think he can let people do what he likes with his own dead body.
What I'm saying is that you don't really want to be encouraging the future of the medical profession to be doing such things. Though I suppose it's a commendable sentiment

How much do you think I'll be caring when I'm dead?

why on earth would you think that the medical staff would let you die after an accident so that they can use your organs to help someone else? its the most absurd idea I've ever heard. It would never cross their minds to do such a thing. What on earth makes you feel that the folk in A+E have a vested interest in saving those in need of organs, but not those that come through their doors? do you think they get commission for body parts or something? lunacy
