2008 Monaco GP - Race 6/18

Kubica
To me Kubica is simply bullet-proof. I just cant see the guy making an error. Its almost like he has some form of invisible shield around him that prevents other cars from making contact with him and prevents him from crashing and damaging his car. He is a top driver, though I would pair him with either Alonso or Hamilton - anyone else and he will be the No.1 driver.

He obviously saves up all his minor wing bashers into massive accidents like Canada ;)

The people mentioning Hamilton in the same sentence as Senna need a serious reality check. Hamilton is still just potential. He is exciting and will probably be one of the greats but the word is BE. To compare someone who has not won a title yet with Senna is an insult.

Oh yes. Absolutely. However, out of all the drivers on the track right now, he is probably the guy who is leading the race of being the next big thing.

A lot of people wait for the driver to retire or die before judging him. I tend to avoid that, as that would be far too easy. I like to try and judge drivers as they are coming through the ranks are in the process of showing their top form.

There is not much point in saying that MS is the best driver, when he is past his best, has been beaten by Alonso for 2yrs and has retired, is there?

What a race to have a power cut during! :(

And on my only sunday off in weeks

Will there be any highlights on the internet more expansive than the 2 minute reel on the ITV website?

Kubica, he is easily on-par with Hamilton in terms of driver skill.

I'm not sure about that man. Kubica has yet to win a race, so we dont know how he would handle being in the lead of a race and having to defend a championship. Its much easier to put in fast lap times when you are in 2nd place. When you hit the front, your limbs go numb and it takes a while to get used to the pressure that comes with leading, rather than chasing.

The stats show that Kubica is not on the same level as Hamilton.

I still feel that he has great car control, makes few mistakes and would make a great No.2 driver.

It would be interesting to see him in a McLaren next to Hamilton but it won't ever happen now.

Hehehe. Hamilton wont let any top driver be his team mate. He, like Alonso and MS, is too big-headed and believes that dividing the resources between 2 drivers can cost you big time - like in 2007. I wouldnt disagree with him.

Heikki is a good driver he has just been cursed with some bad luck and a couple costly mistakes. He will win probably a couple races this year.

If he wins 2 races this year, I will go buy a hat and then eat it. :p

He simply isnt good enough.

There's certainly nothing wrong with Heikki's driving.

He is fast; but thats all he is. He seems to leave the strategic thinking to his pit crew, while he concentrates on driving fast. This may change as the season progresses, but the fact that his team mate is outscoring him so comprehensively, doesnt put him in a good light.

He did an amazing job today like all the other finishers.

He didnt. He cocked up big time on the final restart behind the safety car. That was a school boy error.

Perhaps he just needs to work on his strategy and handling of pressure - who knows.

He needs a lot of work done to him. In time, he can improve. However, all the greats have made immediate impact - Hamilton, Alonso, Senna, MS. They havent taken years to come to the fore.

Heiki's a very nice guy, but if I was a boss putting a F1 team together and I could afford any No.2 driver, he would not be my choice.

GP highlights tonight on ITV1 and then on ITV4. Also, the full GP can be obtained from the internet if you know where to look.

Great result for Hamilton, really chuffed for him especially as a Monaco win obviously meant so much to him.

As for James Allan, how many times did he make some referral to 'Senna' during the course of the race??? Shut up man!!!

James Allen is a complete tool I pray this is the last season we have to hear his horrible voice and his rather over the top love for Hamilton. James Allen the **** is another British driver glory hunter 1st it was all Buton now Hamilton is on the scene its oh oh I love you Hamilton.

Good race today only because it rained and it was a narrow street circuit this place in the dry is boring zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz.

Even though I don't like Hamilton - well done he drove a fine race. As for Sutil driver of the day but I hate it when Vijay and Gasgoine come out saying now we have proved our car is competitive. Nonsense all of the slower teams do well when it rains and more so at tracks like hungary or monaco as the performance difference to the faster cars is greatly reduced as everyone is lapping a lot slower.

As for Kimi shame really he did his best to avoid a shunt he got caught out on a damp patch. Its unfair to compare his incident to the incident with Nakjima and Kubica in Melbourne that was just stupidity as they were still under safety car until the start line whereas today they were racing.

As for a penalty get over it Mike Gasgoine - I hate this bloke what a pillock.

Also Massa showed today that he is not a retard when it comes to wet weather driving. He did really well and had he stayed on a 2-stopper maybe just maybe........

Anyway Montreal next normal service will be resumed with Macca and the Reds fighting it out with BMW chasing and where will India crappy force be Mr Vijay  thats right at the back - what a numpty

Oh and did I say I really hate James Allen :D

NO SWEARNG

You are being way too harsh:

* Australia - 5th - Saftey car ruined race
* Malasia - Good third - even with McLaren poor, out scores Hamilton
* Bahrain - 5th - both him and McLaren poor, out scores Hamilton
* Spain - DNF - Failure of wheel
* Turkey - 12th - Out qualified Hamilton and race ruined by Kimi hitting a rear tyre
* Monaco - 8th - Software failure forces him to strat at the back of the worst place in F1 to overtake!

So far it is 4-2 and out of the 6 races so far only 2 have gone without external influences for Kovalainen - the two he outscores Hamilton.

Even if he did go at the right time after the safety car he would not have been able to pass Nakajima with only 6 or so laps left of the race. It is Monaco remember!

Stunning victory for Hamilton...really pleased for the lad...bit gutted for Sutil, really should have got some points...but otherwise great win for Hamilton...hopefully he can get another win at Montreal.

Lucky win for hamilton the way things worked out after the puncture but thats the way it is sometimes. Still a good drive none the less.

Ferrari need to pick a driver to back. Like they used to. They can control hamilton while one runs off into the distance. I dont like them doing it but it's clear it's the only way they can shut out hamilton while minimising mistakes.

Heiki can claim that all his results are influenced by bad luck. The fact is, when it comes to high point scoring, Heiki just hasnt got it. Drivers often bring their bad or good luck with them, when they move teams. Team bosses include this in their decision. This is why lucky drivers like Senna and MS were highly regarded - because they could make things happen for them even when the odds were against them. Drivers like Heiki bring bad luck with them, which means that even when the odds are favouring them, you can expect something to go wrong.

At the end of the day points win prizes and you shouldnt need to resort to blaming the lack of point scoring on external influences.

Also, I'm not saying Heiki is slow. His 1 lap pace is awesome. Perhaps even faster than that of Hamilton. However, his race craft isnt a match to Hamilton. If I had to put money on who would score more points, my brain would have to be removed before I put money on Heiki.

Even if he did go at the right time after the safety car he would not have been able to pass Nakajima with only 6 or so laps left of the race. It is Monaco remember!

I believe he was something 5 secs a lap faster than Nakajima at that time. With that sort of speed advantage, anything wouldve been possible. The fact that it was at Monaco, does not excuse him for his error.

Like I said before, MS, Senna or Prost would never have made that sort of basic error - they wouldve pushed right to the end, even if it meant taking out Nakajima out in the process. I know that sounds bad, but a winner has a twisted sense of fairness. A loser tends to be happy to finish at the back.

When Senna was fighting with the unbeatable Williams cars in 92 and 93, he used to push right to the limit, hoping that some opportunity would open up to him, that he could take advantage of. Heiki wasnt even there to take advantage of the opportunity.

Wow apparently Hamilton had a puncture on the last lap

The luck is with him, as it is with all top drivers. Heiki would never had finished the race and would probably have pulled over.
