Is this a new feature?

I'm running my Xbox via VGA on my 2001wfp at 1280x768 and I've just noticed that whereas before there would be black bars at the top and bottom of the screen as in a letterbox format, now the viewable area now reaches both the top and bottom.

So is this part of a recent update or did I just not notice the option before?

While we're on the subject, and I apologise to the OP for barging in like this, but is there a 'ideal' resolution to run the 360 at?

I've got mine plugged into a Dell 2407 and am running it at 1920 x 1080 with the screen set to 1:1 because I thought that it would be best. Worked fine for playing some Virtua Tennis but when I fired up Crackdown the display was hanging off the end of the screen.

I'm assuming that this is because the 2407 doesn't like 1080i signals and VT runs at 1080p but Crackdown runs at a max of 1080i?

No games have a max res as the 360 uses a dedicated scaler chip. All games can be run at all resolutions, only PGR3 has issues iirc.

in another thread i asked about getting a VGA cable for the 360 as component maxed out at 720p on my Dell2407 and i discovered that it was stretched to 1920*1200.

googled it and there is a HUGE problem with dell monitors and not allowing 1:1 with the VGA cable on the xbox but after a few hours i stopped noticing it.

then the other day it was set to 1:1 and not at 1920*1200 but 1920*1080 so i'm assuming that dell has sent out something maybe to M$ that fixes it ? i don't know anything if i'm honest but i was getting a 1:1 issue and with out doing anything its fixed.
