Yes I know its the Sun, but its been on the news on the TV this morning as well.

Apparently a British couple originally from India, living in Birmingham have dumped their newborn twins at the hospital shortly after they were born due to the fact they werent boys.

The mum is ages 59 and the father is in his 70's claimed they were the wrong sex and didnt want them.
The Dad then asked how soon his wife would be able to go back to India for more treatment!

Makes me sick, I have a medical condition which means I might not even be able to have children, and to hear about this couple casually throwing away their children, I cant even begin to explain how mad this makes me.

It is pretty disgraceful, personally i think that if the authorities know who these people are, then they should be forced to pay child support similarly to divorced parents, just because they've dumped them into foster case doesn't make them avoid their responsibilities.

To me that's a disgrace - pure and simple.

I sure hope I'm not paying any tax to anyone that acts like that - you bring them into the world, you're responsible. Perhaps they should be locked away in prison for abandoning them.

Absolute and utter disgrace, and no surprise, there are certain Castes in India which were/are reknown for despising births of girls, infanticide is common with these castes.

But you would have thought, especially with the age of the couple in mind, that IVF would not have been offered as an option to them, just goes to show the treatment is being handed out willy nilly imo.

I am absolutely disgusted that 2 people would do such a thing.

They need to be deported back to India, nevermind popping over for more IVF. What if they have another girl?

You cannot just decide what suits you best when it comes to birth. Idiots!!!

Why was a woman of 59 allowed to join an IVF program in the first place!?!?!

The IVF was recieved in India, and they used the NHS over here for everything else, marvelous.

Presumably it's because they had the treatment in India (+ lots of money?)

I am not against the whole embyology and research issue as I hope that it could lead to cures for some horrible diseases, but this case highlights where it can all go wrong. The procedure is developed with all good intentions in one country which then signs up to agreements which prohibit its use to certain conditions. Another country then takes up the procedure and, not being bound by any code of conduct, gives it to anyone who can pay. This is my concern with the human / animal hybrids. I am sure that the UK will use the technology for the benefit of mankind, but who's to say what other countries will do once the methods are published?

This is absolutely shameful.

I myself am also not able to father children naturally, but I know that me and my Wife would love to have a couple of baby girls. Some people just don't know how lucky they are some times.

Just another case of backwards minded country people from other nations coming here to sponge off the NHS. People like this arent interested in "britain" at all... all they come here for is a free handout and thats it. They have no interest in changing and becoming part of britain.

THESE are the kind of people we dont want. Those who come and embrace britain and contribute should be welcomed with open arms, and people like this pair should be sent back with a boot up the ass! I wonder if they worked and have contibuted to the NHS thats now footing the bill? If they have assests here they should be made to pay up!

As for the girls, to be honest i think they will have a better life with someone else in any case.

that's just ridiculous, why would someone who was desperate for children to the extent that they're having ivf at that age care what sex they are :|

The sad product of a culture that still retains the archaic notion that sons are the only children worth having. They should be forced to pay maintenance for the rest of their lives and refused any further treatment. Hell, they are WAY too old to have kids anyway ffs, the dad will be dead in 5-10 years and the mother will be infirm in 10-15... why the hell they allow it is beyond me.

Absolutely disgraceful.

I agree with you totally

Unfortunately these things are all too common in India where a girl is seen as a burden, what this has also meant is in some parts of India the amount of new born boys compared to girls is double and now boys are struggling to find girls to marry because of this, serves them right I guess. Problem you also have in India is doctors are greedy meaning they will be more than happy to check the sex of a baby and the parents can have abortions even though they are illegal there.

I remember my grandma telling me this story about a lady and how she would poison the girls when they were born, this is going 40 years back so they couldn't have abortions then. Think 5 or 6 girls died but when a boy was born he survived. That boy turned out to be a proper druggy & alcoholic and ruined his families lives, karmas a bitch hey......

Presumably because ethical standards in the Indian health industry are lower than those in the UK.

They're British citizens with enough money to pay for private treatment overseas, so you can't stop them buying IVF and you can't stop them using NHS.

You can't even shoot them, unfortunately.

Then as much money as possible should be taken from them to pay for the childrens upbringing until they are 18.
