Looking for a card for an older system

I'm looking to pick up a cheapo card to help up my frame rates in Age of conan, but i'm scared of my system getting bottlenecked:

Currently:

AMD athlon 64 4200+
2gig Ram
Asus A8n-Vm Mobo
Ati radeon x1800

I'm just wondering if it would be better just holding out for a whole system or would there be a cheap enough card to cope with the system but giving me a boost on fps in AoC?

i have a 4200x2. I upgraded from an x1950gt to an 8800gts 320mb and the difference is amazing. If only you had access to the Members Market, believe me there are some great bargains in there.
 
I know, i spent a good 10 minutes trying to find this so called "members market" until i realised you need 250 posts lol.

It is a nice jump but a 320 might not cut it in AOC as mine doesn't but could be my cpu as well.
Someone else had the same problem as me and it could be down to the lowish memory on the 320 but ha had a 8800GT so droping in a new card might not help because of your cpu.

Thats what i figured, i think i'll slug on with <20fps for now, then in august i'm due to get around £1000 bonus, so i'll buy a system then
 
hehe, i think i'll get a Q6600, a new mobo, 2gb of geil ram and a 8800GTS tomorrow once i can phone them to confirm how the finance works. then clear it when the bonus comes in.
 
I would recommed a nice 8800GT you will see a massive increase and it will only set u back £110
