I find the idea of a God offensive. It is my opinion that people who believe in a God are primitive and weak, and lack belief in themselves. I believe that my life is what i make it, and that i will get out of life what i put in to it.

I wont discuss these beliefs, as they are mine and i excercise my rights to have them, just as you excercise your rights to put leaflets through my door and stop me in the street to convince me that i'm wrong.

I didnt rolleyes at your posts. Why are you doing it to mine?
Because it's a stupid view. Do you honestly believe all religious people are weak minded. Perhaps you should go meet some. In fact you probably already know loads. A lot will not shout about it unless you ask them.

Not sure to be honest, but it's not sometihng I think about or consider to be of any importance really.

Regarding my opinion of people who do believe in god....fair enough, if it helps people find meaning in their lives and provides them with a moral framework to live by then good luck to them.

You advocate exactly what i hate about religion. You are, as usual, telling me i'm wrong, or stupid for what i believe. Why do people who argue pro-religion feel compelled to constantly do this?

I believe everything i said. Moreso towards people who rely on religion than those who merely practice it, admittedly. I'm off out of this thread now, because it's not my place to tell anyone they are wrong for what they believe. i merely gave my opinion. I'll let you bicker amongst yourselves over it.

a) i'm not religious.
B) if you think all religious people are weak minded then you are wrong. I find viewpoints like yours are very narrow-minded. You can of course believe what ever you want. But it is quite obvious that all religious people aren't week minded or nut cases.

Right, I don't entirely disagree with what DampCat said. But of course, making such blanket statements about whole groups of people is at the least quite a silly thing to do.

I'm going to bite, and retract my previous statement about leaving the thread, because i want to make something clear.

1. I'm not wrong, you believe i am. That's fine, but there's a difference. I'm not saying i'm right, but being wrong or right over this is a matter of judgement, not fact.

2. I'm not narrow minded. I did not say people who practice religion are wrong for doing so. I do believe they are weak minded. I do know religious people, i have some in my family. I love them very much.

If they want to believe in God, and in doing so that helps them deal with issues in life, and get through each day, and gives them something to aim towards, then that's absolutely fine by me. I will not hold anything against them for religious beliefs. I will however continue to believe that they are of a weaker mind. There's nothing wrong with that, it's not a negative portrayal from me on to them.

I'm sure they believe i'm of a weaker mind, because i cannot comprehend the existence of a Divine Being. That is fine as well. I am completely, 100% not prejudice against Belief (am i spelling that right?).

I apologise for my assumption that you are religious, it was a mistake on my part. I'd also however like to point out that at no point did i imply people who are religious are "nutcases" either. There are plenty of atheist nutcases too.

I always find it wierd how athiests or non beleivers argue so zelously about this topic.

I mean theres two main groups of people who have a religion, those who just go through the motions usually people just born into it and do it becasue its kind of tradition. Then there's those who really beleive it and have lots of faith etc.

the former group makes up the majority of "beleivers" and probably don't really care that much if god exists or not, it's going to effect them that much.

Dampcat is of course entitled to his opinion that people with religious beliefs are weak-minded.

He shouldn't have to state that it's only his opinion, after all, this is all about opinions.

I find his views just as offensive as he claims to find the idea of a deity, but luckily I'm allowed to hold this view and I'm sure it won't affect him in the slightest.:)

In fact, even more importantly, not only will they not affect me, but i respect the fact that you hold it. I can actually appreciate why you feel it, but I can't let it affect what i believe.
