Just did it. Possibly the easiest test I have ever done in my life!

Who else is going to be disappointed with less than 100%? :D

Core 1 was pretty easy when I did it a couple of years back. Was dissapointed with 97% though. If you do mechanics later on, that's pretty easy as well.

Take note kids, exam willy waving isn't cool.

But for the record I would have to say the recent 'core' maths units "dumbed down" the A level totally unecessarily.

how hard does it get. Are there differentials and integrals? turning points, mechanics etc....? can you post the hardest question from one of the papers?

I did my AS Core 1 in January (AQA) which i thought wasn't too challenging, it was GCSE standard for the most part. Core 2 though, which i've just done, was a different story.

I had my Mechanics 1 today as well. As i do Physics as well and because the topics overlap a lot in both Mechanics and Physics i found the Mechanics exam pretty simple for the most part purely because i've had a lot of practice in it in both subjects. I'm glad i didn't do Statistics though, i think i would have epic failed!

SpeedFreak, you can see some past papers on the AQA website if you like. In my Core 1 there was definately differentials, not sure about integrals, i think that was more Core 2 for me.

Sadly, I do not have access to them, but I would have said M2 was the hardest of the 6 standard exams. Perhaps someone can post a question?

Although as far as I know they spread P1-3 into C1-4 and lost M2 entirely.

Well, a student has a choice of
M1 + M2
S1 + S2
D1 + D2
M1 + S1
M1 + D1
S1 + D1

As well as the mandatory C1-4 for a maths A level.
Most schools just force the pupils to take M1 + S1 as they are the easiest.

C1 is way too easy though, hardly a step up from GCSE

This is off a WJEC C1 specimen paper

3/x^4 + 4sqrt(x)

Diffrentiate with respect to x [4 marks]

There's no integrals in C1 afaik, and turning points and all mechanics turn up in M1 or M2.
