Under-rated bands...

Planes Mistaken for Stars and Benton Falls don't get enough credit in my eyes.

High On Fire aren't known well enough either.

Also notable:

The Album Leaf
Sounds Like Violence
Gospel

I could also list a shedload of post-rock bands like The Samuel Jackson Five, This Will Destroy You, Caspian, maybeshewill, Rachel's, Tracer AMC, Once We Were etc etc

New Radicals - They did You Only Get What You Give and then promptly disappeared. Fantastic single.

Also, anyone remember The Androids? They had that single Do It With Madonna, can't for the life of me remember what it sounded like, but I liked it.

Bits and pieces. I checked him out after seeing him live with Pearl Jam on their Madison Square Garden DVD. :)

I agree about Shed 7. Kinda got eclipsed by Blur and Oasis.

Had listened to any Shed 7 stuff for years until last week. Surprised me how good some of the stuff they did still sounds today.

I know jack about music, probably to the chagrin of some posters :) but I always though Killing Joke were a tad underrated, granted they've been going since the 80's?

And at the risk of flames rising to meet me head on ... Temple of the Dog, dunno if this counts as it was a small collaboration between Pearl Jam and Soundgarden.

The zutons definitely great I just feel that they would be better off without the pretty girl ? don't know why and don't want to be chauvinistic but having a girl in you're band kind of ruins your reputation and authenticity ? cant think of many bands that had a female member that I would call ATG.
Abi Harding is his girlfriend and this reminds me of spinal tap the dreaded GF comes on stage for a couple of tracks and ends up part of the band ?

My 17 year old nephew likes them which is plenty enough reason for me not to like them

Weird, when 17 year olds tell me what they're listening to I make an effort to hear them.
I'm glad I don't suffer from music snobbery.

And my answer is - The Wildhearts

Not quite UK, but a French band called Stuck in the sound.

I agree with allot of the stuff here for older stuff, running through the tube, MEMORIES.

Not sure how Radiohead or Pavement can be considered under rated

Radiohead mainly because people dismiss them entirely on their "depressing" tag that has been attached to them without even considering the immense godlike amount of talent in at least 2 of the members.

Nine Black Alps?

Everyone I speak to seems to have never heard of them.....I love 'em, not so much their 2nd album though but that's just personal preference, although Burn Faster's quite good.

Skunk Anansie sound cool, just listening to some of their stuff!

Also : Gone Jackals. Love 'em. Legacy, Let 'er rip, Born Bad, Trapped, Love comes crawling......All good stuff! :D

Big fan of Tiger Army too but I suspect they're much more well heard of in the States :)
