I've completed gone off PC games but fancy giving this a shot. Only problem is I can't find a demo anywhere and I can't find it on sale online anywhere!?

Can anyone help me out? Is it any good?

Cheers

It's very much like the original ones from the old Amiga days. If you liked those I would say it's very good yeah. My g/f spends hours on it at a time, one of the few games she ever plays. Very relaxing as it doesn't pressure you like say C&C does, well worth a go if you can get it cheap.

Ahh, Settlers, those were the days!

The ammount of times I got the emergency wood store out to build a sawmill and forester... :)

I never played settlers 2: I started with Knights and Merchants.
Tryed settlers 3: amazon demo and loved it and bought some French version of III in France and didn't like it coz well, it was French...

Then here I bought the eng version of Settlers IV and loved it :D.
Tried the 10th anniversary of settlers 2 and just didn't like it, wasn't the same as settlers IV or Knights and Merchants.

The reason you cannot find it is that it was a competitor exclusive (purple). Even other competitors dont take it on on exchange as they dont have it as a listed release (I know cos I tried trading it in last year).

I believe you can get from Ubisoft direct online. There is also an Viking expansion pack but it is not available here.

One thing though - dont try with Vista. It changes some settings on install and makes vista think you have changed your hardware and puts you on a countdown to lockout.

Settlers 10th Anniversary is the closest thing to Settlers II that you can get... and thus is the purest form you can get. None of this Settlers III and IV crap, widely regarded as a departure form what made Settlers good in the first place. I have the 10th Anni. and love it. :)

It's strange you should say that Loosecannon, i've got it running fine on vista. It has to be run in XP sp2 compatibility mode though to get any sound for some reason. I agree totally with Richdog's point that the other games are a huge departure from what Settlers started out as, nowhere near as good as the pure and simple game it started as and many fell in love with.

Yup. Though I like S3 and S4 I much prefer the 'old' games. I bought it on my Amiga 600 and still remember buying it. A classsic!
I have the 10th anniv one. Had to get it on an auction as it isnt sold anywhere. Runs on Vista x64 too!
