Hey there

So I heard about the Gothic game series a while ago and I've heard Gothic 3 is big and open ended much like Oblivion (but not as good) and it has great graphics. Has anyone here played any of the Gothic games, more specifically Gothic 3, and did you like it? Is it worth buying the Gothic Universe box set for £17.99? (Which is all of the Gothic games in a box set, obviously lol)

Thanks for your help and time.

The games are a bit like a mmo with no one else playing, at least thats what i thought.

Maybe just go for the 3rd one since its got the best graphics.

I played the 1st one, it was great. It was praised for having a living world where people go to bed and get on with their daily lives.

Definatally games worth playing.
The 3rd one was terriably buggy on release but i think it has been sorted with patches. I only played the demo, never got the full game as i have so many other rpg's im trying to get through.

Play the 2nd one - but you will need to ensure it is fully patched. Gothic 3 is far less buggy now, but the combat system is rubbish.

The third is now a much better game than on release and well worth persevering with. I ended up enjoying it far more than I expected. I would say £17.99 isn't to bad for the amount of time you'll spend playing.

It's not actually £17.99, it's £14.99 from the purple shop. I also discovered I have some reward points so I can get the box set for £12.49 delivered.

The first was great...and the second was meant to be even better. Beware though, I tried replaying the first recently and even patched up it was very prone to crashing to desktop :/

Gothic 3 is awful. Combat and lack of patching for JoWood made it unbearable for me.

Massive game, just poorly done. Play BGII through again :D

I remember the first time I played Gothic 2 (I'd consider myself an RPG veteran too :p) and I got quite frustrated quite quickly as I was getting killed by everything! Also I found the combat quite difficult to adjust to

However I decided to install it again a few months later and was determined to stick with it and found it to be one of the most in depth and rewarding games I'd played in a long time...I really must play through it again :)

Thanks,

Scott C

I really liked gothic 1 and 2, but couldn't get into the third one at all. It has a pretty harsh learning curve, just chucks you straight into the deep end with little to no information about what you are supposed to be doing and how. Really annoyingly easy to get killed as well. And as mentioned, the combat is rrrubbish.

There is an expansion for Gothic 3 coming out later in the year. Hopefully it may address some of the issues.
