Footballer with the strongest personality?

Wow Shearer decked his teammate and Duncan Ferguson was a thug. Not really positive examples of personality are they?

I think guys that can take winning penalties in sudden death finals and drive a team out of ideas to victory. Zidane and Gerrard come to mind and a few other performances notably Keane against Juventus.

Im up for:
Materazzi, Cantona, Vinny Jones, Tony Adams, Shearer, Gazza

Plain Stupid Award goes to... Is there really any need in asking? we all know:D

Not really sure I understand the question, but i'll go for Cantona purely for the way he came back from the ban to lead us to the double when other players were struggling.

what and zidane was a saint, did you miss the last world cup?

talk about shooting yourself in the foot, you ruled out 2 previous suggestions because they assaulted someone else, and then suggested someone who hit the self destruct button in the middle of the world cup final and performed a running head butt on someone and got himself sent off...

No Zidane wasn't a saint. I'm well aware he got sent off in his last game. It's not really the same as assaulting people off the pitch though.

Talk about overlooking the fact he pretty much inspired his team to 2 WC finals in the first place scoring 3 of their 4 goals in those finals as well as scoring the winner in a European Cup final in his career. That's the bit I thought displayed strong personality seeing as you couldn't figure that out.

Inspired?

He got sent off in 98 aswell, and was suspended, but then he did come back and score the winner...

And If I remember correctly was also suspended for a game in 2006 aswell. He had discipline issues that's for sure.

Beckham?

Came back from the sending off against Argentina, penalty miss against Portugal. He has paparazzi 24/7 around him, criticism of his wife, his alleged affair. Yet he comes across really genuine down to earth and has time for anyone.

You have to have a strong personality to cope with all of this, all day, every day.

And the kidnapping attempt/rumours too!

In terms of an auroa about them there has been a fair few good shouts in this thread. Another one to consider is Ronald Koeman when he was in his prime. An absolute rock of a player who was never barged off the ball. He also had this thing about him when he was ready for taking free kicks that it felt like the stadium was in silence just before he struck it and then wallop
