Call of Duty 5 will be called Call of Duty: World at War

I can see why they are doing it- it takes so long to produce a game like COD4 using one developer they can turn it into a whole 'franchise' and pump the games out more frequently.

An example of this would be Command and Conquer, which I'm sure exists as three different 'universes' now (Generals, Red Alert, Tiberium).

Still, WWII is so 1945... :D

its not infinity ward, so its gonna be another dire game aimed at consoles, like cod3 was.

*waits for cod 6*

IMO it ruined the Cod1 online experience, too many vehicles, and boring weapons and gay maps

CoD 1 will always be the best

The things you have mentioned were the best things about it!

Huge maps, huge player count and vehicles. Best MP gametypes also.

It introduced sprinting which is an integral part of CoD today.

The single player campaign was also the best, the mid air shootout was stunning! One of my favourite and most compelling pieces in a game.

eurrrgh

cant be bothered with this - why cant they just build on what they have done with cod 4

why go back down the same path

we dont need another world war game

modern warfares environments were cool - but restrictive

perhaps they should consider continuing the modern warfare theme into new environments not seen done well in modern fps

for example heavy forest/rainforest/arctic

Doesn't seem like it, which is exactly why it's a good idea for them to distance themselves as much as possible from what they've done with CoD 4.

a medieval cod would be cool, with like, swords, crossbows, longbows, horsemen with lances etc.. i think the ww2 has been overdone, although they could get it right with this one, we will have to wait and see.

ill reserve judgement but WW2 shooters are getting a bit old. Didn't play Medal of Honor Pacific so haven't had any experience of that war. Might be alright, I personally thought CoD 3 was quite good.

will this be coming out on pc as well?

Any way, as a ww2 buff, i'm delighted that we'll have a pacific based game. Hopefully we'll get to storm the beaches at iwo jima etc :)

Everyones sick of ww2 games because you fight the same enemies, funnily enough in most modern shooters you're usually fighting arab terrorists so i dont get the complaints. You invariably have the same weapons as well with the terrorists of course wielding ak47's, "good guys" with m4's m16's etc.

Also you could count the amount of good ww2 games on one hand, plenty of crap ones but thats the same with every type of game based on one point of history that you can buy.

Pacific theatre i dunno about though, pacific assault was a pretty bad attempt at it, and from what ive read the game was halfway done then scrapped and reworked..the tech demo with all this crap about traversing the island an having no predetermined routes to follow seems to support that.

Problem with pacific theatre games is they look and play very similar to vietnam era games and with the exception of Bf:nam theres rally not ben many good fps set in that era. Ea has had 2 attempts at ww2 in the pacific (rising sun, pacific assault) and both were pretty crap. Be interesting to see if IW can actually make a decent ww2 game.
