MY DVDRW in my Dell XPS M1530 laptop is missing and is not registering in windows. Its not in My Computer or System Devices.

I can't eject the DVD from it either (by pressing the button).

IMGBurn doesn't detect any devices.

Is my laptop busted?

Probably the drive has popped its clogs, Is it a drive that is meant to be removed? i.e. pull a little lever and it pops out? If so try taking it out and putting it back in, might fix it, probably wont.

If its easilly removable you could just try and get a replacement yourself if not in warranty, otherwise its back to the factory or use an external dvd drive from now on.

edit: Looking at the dell site, its not a removable or easy to replace, so RMA is probably your only option.

Yeah its a fixed one.

Checked the bios and it isn't showing their either. Wierd thing is, you can hear it spinning up at boot (with the dvd in *** drive).

Looks like ima have to RMA.

I think i have a Year Next business day onsite warranty on the laptop, but i may have void that already by changing the ram?

Are you running Vista ? I had what sounds like a similar issue on my PC. The DVD-RW just disappeared from the system. I found the fix via a google search and had to change some registry settings.

If the RAM is in a seperate part meaning you don't have to open the whole laptop which is usual now, then I don't think you'll have voided the warranty. As long as any seals are still intact then you'll be fine.

Lol.....too little too late.....tried to play with it today, i unscrewed all the screws but couldn't figure out how to take it apart so just screwed them back in.

I think i may have broke some sort of seal on the screws......got so blue crap on the ends of some of the screws.

What do you mean by seal? There are no sticker seals on the laptop.

Sometimes they have a seal on the inside of the case which rips when opened. Also the stuff over the screws can act as a seal too.

Just a warranty seal to know if its been opened.
