"The price is a maximum of $199 all around the world -- we're really, really excited about the new iPhone 3G. And as you might expect, we have a new ad! I'd love to show it to you."

Did he say that or just 199?

I bet the price is also ONLY a contract price, or a rebate AFTER you subscribe to the tariff (to stop the 30 day cancellation tricks).

I have to say, there's a lot of users on here who've sold phones to get this.. now we have to wait another month! :(

No price on the UK store.. I wonder if they are waiting on o2. I was hoping with the "unlocked safe" at the end he was going to spring the fact it was network unlocked ;)

And to those people who keep harping on about apple not selling contracts and such like.. they make the majority of their money on the iphone from the revenue sharing on the contracts, so they won't be giving it away for nothing and not wanting a contract :)

i reckon it will deffo be contract only with you not being able to preorder online
I was thinking that too, surely O2/CPW aren't going to let people walk out of the store after paying just £75/£150 when the phone hardware itself is worth considerably more? Surely Apple will have learnt from the fact that everyone was buying them and just jailbreaking/unlocking them?

I really cannot see it selling for $199 (approx £100) over here.. we will only know once the prices go up.

Come on.. I need to know that I can upgrade my Mk1 through O2... I really hope there's no "you'll have to sign up for a new 18 month contract" guff

You best be able to buy just the phone :/

With the price listed I think they would've changed it, no way would O2 let you walk in and get the new iphone for £150-£200 and with no guarantee of a contract (if the 3G iPhone can be activated, unlocked and jailbroken)

Just noticed this on the US and UK iPhone frontpages:

Maybe not exclusive to O2 anymore?
