The Mass Effect (PC) Discussion Thread

Runs ok on my x1950pro even tho fps is about 25 usually its still good to play since i dont need lighting fast fps for this game type.

About the difference, i havent played the consoles versions but i heard the pc version had additional levels and new hud and controls.

For some reason I am only getting like 20-30FPS, sometimes dips below 20in combat scenes and stuff and this is on High particle effects and High textures, 1280x1024. See my system spec in my sig. Is this type of framerate expected with this PC or is this rather low? Is there any way I can optimize it to run better? My OS is XP Professional btw.

Turn down your texture settings. 256MB of video ram is going to struggle in many modern games at higher texture settings.

I get about 20-30 with high particals and best texture set. So i would think you could get double or at least 40-55 ish easy. And im running 1600x1200 res.

Make sure AA isnt on and turn vsync off and especially AAA off. And also your on 8.5 drivers yeah?

Edit= Ah didnt see you had 256mb ram on the card that could prove a prob with high texture sets and or res. Try 1024 res as its not that much diff to what your using if you want to keep the textures nice.

I bloody well love this game. Just done the Hotlabs on Noveria (SP?) and have returned back to the Citadel.

Got some Heavy armour now aswell, 24k credits though!

So much to do :D

OK guys, thanks for the posts ;)

I'd heard of Mass Effect before, but didn't really know anything about it.
After just flicking through this thread, it sounds like a game to get, so I think I'm convinced.

I guess it should run fine on the rig in sig.

Just checked Steam, too bad it's not on there, I wish all games could be released on there, it's just so hassle free... though the pricing could be better sometimes ;)

OK, thanks again, I'm off to check prices at online stores.

Vin.

I really cant express how enjoyable I am finding this game. The races are very well explained - its almost like the developers 'know' something about our future and are preparing us for it :) or mebe im being daft and reading into it too much lol

I'm really enjoying it too. Though I've just had my third stick of Crucial ram die on me. Woo. Playing Mass Effect with 1GB of ram is 'interesting'.

(actually, wouldn't be that bad if I didn't play it in windowed mode and do other stuff during loading/etc)

Just got this over the weekend, never managed to complete it on the 360!

Must say I'm loving the PC controls over the 360.

Just completed it, fantastic game, gonna do it again after my music exam tomorrow :)

The last boss battle was stupid, took me 30 minutes to down that jerk :/ Who decided not to let you use weapons for that?
I really really loved the track playing during the credits, will have to go get the soundtrack for that :)

Picked it up after work yesterday and well impressed, just about to leave the citadel for first time and go explore the galaxy :)

1920x1200 on max detail and looking great with 30-60fps though might knock some settings down a little.

On the other hand that UI is shocking... Console port for sure and really disappointed after all this time they couldn't improve it.

The last boss must have been a nightmare with a controller.

Not really, as the game helps you aim a lot, especially with many points in your weapon of choice. I found with full points pistol, and spamming marksman it wasn't too bad with a controller.

I played this for eight solid hours last night and i'm still exploring the citadel.

Looks lovely and runs very smooth on my rig (3.6c2q, 8800 gtx).

How does the rest of the game compare to the open freedom of the citadel? any more large locations or is it just small outposts?

I almost dont want to leave :D
